After having completed all the steps, this last weekend I was finally able to play Civilization with one of its expansions: Fame and Fortune and complete the exploration quest. The game took 7 hours, including the explanation and even though we moved slowly, because most of us were new to the game and the others had only played it once or twice, we were all able to figure out a strategy to win and get really close to it. In the end, however, one of the most experienced gamers in our group obtained the victory. The good aspect is that he was in control of the Spaniards, our own nationality, so at least Spain got some success this weekend, after the terrible performance at the World Cup!

I really like Civilization, got it with the first expansion and waiting to get Wisdom and Warfare. Sadly up to day i have only been able to play two games three players. I expect to have the occasion on summer to schedule a 4-5 player game to completely get the feeling of the game.

Both Civilization and Escape look amazing…and I don’t know that I would be able to convince my regular game group to try either of them. 🙁

The length and “best with four players” aspect of Civ makes it a long shot at best (at least for now), and I know the frenetic pacing of Escape is likely to be equally problematic. Still, a girl can dream, right?

I want both of these. Thanks for another explorable victimization of my wallet!

I like the Eagle Games version of Civilization, but it’s more time consuming than the FFG version. Nowadays I can’t get people to play the old version anymore. That said, the FFG version is really good. Even the governments are in that game! The Eagle Games version missed out on that.

I haven’t played the FFG version of the game, but I owned both the 1980’s board game and the Eagle Games edition (actually was involved in the play-testing). Has anyone played the Eagle version and the FFG version? I’d like to hear how they stack up.

I have not yet played Escape: Curse of the Temple, but I was intrigued enough by what I saw and heard that I jumped on the Kickstarter campaign for the Big Box Edition!

I have three distinct groups I game with, one of which is family, centered around my 8-year old nephew. I can see him getting a kick out of this one!

Easy to see that Escape is not the right game for my regular game group. Older crowd that doesn’t like to talk about anything stressful or loud. Sounds like something I’d like to try with another group though.

And every time I see Sid Meier’s Civilization Board Game, I think of the original version that nobody has heard of because it’s simply not that good. Maybe I should try the new one to replace the old memories with new ones. 🙂

Takras is a geekbuddy and someone with a very good taste in games so I really like both of these. He is regularly making video reviews of games although in Norwegian, but great videos anyway.

Escape was frenetic and fun, though Gamer Bling has concerns about replay value.

Thanks coltsfan76, I ended up linking to the support page for Civilization on FFG… that way you can see the other support files and videos they have as well!
