Recently the board gaming community has been abuzz over a unique Kickstarter game called Agents of SMERSH. With artwork by George Patsouras (The Resistance & Flash Point) and a shining review by backer Richard Launius (designer of Arkham Horror and Defenders of the Realm) we knew we had to check this game out.
Agents of SMERSH game designer Jason Maxwell, who was very forthcoming, told us about his game and even addressed each of the BoardGaming.com Gamer Types– that’s you!
Check out his comments below.
About the Game
by Jason Maxwell
Agents of SMERSH is similar vein to Tales of the Arabian Nights – except game play is expanded, including custom dice to determine success or failure of encounters, and more strategic play from what is typically expected of a Storytelling board game. There are plenty of James Bond gadgets and pop references and detailed artwork – not to mention a touch of humor.
Expect jet packs, car stunts, flying on top of airplanes, poison snakes, female villains, mysterious figures in the shadows and much much more!
Who would enjoy this?

The game has already garnered successful funding on Kickstarter.com which means that the game will be produced. However, the more funding the more special bonuses will be released.
Man, I still have to play this thing!!
Pre-ordered at the 70 dollar Kickstarter level. This game looks like it will be a blast.
Jason, thanks for spending a big chunk of your time designing a game that will bring fun times to many people.

What you’re seeing here is not 100% final but pretty close. There might be some updates to the graphic design and layout.
So is this the final version (based on these picks) or is the Kickstarter funds in part going to be used to update artwork and such. The game looks pretty top notch already.
Been watching this one on Kickstarter for awhile. but I finally gave in and decided to back it. The stretch rewards are adding up!
Kickstarted! ~ per Granny

Yah me too, but I don’t own ToAN – So I backed Agents of SMERSH.
I had to get the game now with all the bonuses instead of paying way more later.
I didn’t want it go like so many other Kickstarter games where I stare at “0 Seconds to go – Project Funded” wishing I had bought it.
I have and enjoy Tales of the Arabian Nights, and I also enjoy James Bond. That’s making this game look very interesting!
If I was independently wealthy, aside from a small island, I would definitely buy this game. I love Tales of the Arabian Nights and hearing that this is the James Bond equivalent makes my mouth water. Poverty kind of sucks.
I will definitely play this with anyone who wants to though. No reason whatsoever pops into my mind that would make playing this a bad decision.
Looks fun. Must buy. Sad wallet.
I was just looking on Kickstarter today and saw this. Im also a little weary, but seeing some of the names and references connected to the game, Im going to give it a second look.
Even though I’m avid gamer I’m weary about purchasing a game I have never tried.
However, after a few back and forth emails with game designer Jason Maxwell I have decided to become a backer of the game. He is putting a ton of effort into this game.
