Earlier this week we continued our adventure in Pathfinder ACG: Rise of the Runelords. It’s a game that just keeps getting better each time we play!
This weekend we’ll have family in town, so the game choices are a bit up in the air, but we’ll probably still make time in the late evenings to continue our Pathfinder adventures.
What are you playing this weekend?
@SockDrawerMonster: Instead of AH?!?! Blasphemy! We had 6 investigators and won. Our games tend to last 2.5 to 3 hours max. I’m good with that time length. EH was sold as a streamlined shorter playing AH, which in my experience it isn’t.
It’s funny how it really is each to his own. My gaming tastes have shifted over the years and now I would much rather play AH or a CDW than 2 Eurogames in the same time frame. IMHO there aren’t many games out there that are better.
@Stargazer1 Can’t say I ever had Arkham Horror lasting close to 2 hours either, except the times we lost. However EH is more forgiving in early game, so it tends to draw on. Both games are good, but they leave nagging feeling that you could have played two better games of something instead in the time you dedicated on AH/EH.
Our Thanksgiving weekend a bit subdued due to two sick kids. Got in some Catan Jr and Galaxy Trucker.
Really enjoyed dominion and its first two expansions over the weekend. Excellent game!
@SockDrawerMonster: Wow, you hit the nail on the head regarding Eldritch Horror! Saturday was my first game in quite sometime too. 3.5+ hour slog that left me wanting much more. EH is supposed to be streamlined?!?!? Everytime I play EH I walk away with the same feeling. By contrast, played a 2.0+ hour game of Arkham Horror on Friday night that I really enjoyed. I think it’s going to be a looooong time before I play EH again.
Saturday played Witcher and Fury of Dracula. Today played Eldritch Horror after a long break and remembered why it has been such an long pause. It really eats time without the same satisfaction of many games longer games give.
As unfathomable as it may seem, I played Settlers of Catan for the first time yesterday.
Thumbs up!
I got a copy of Sushi Go, and I played it with the family.
Hoping to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day with a little Spirit Island. Otherwise, it’ll be a surprise.
Visited my mom on Saturday and played: Skip-Bo, Bowling Dice, Coloretta, and Martian Dice.
Sunday brought on Cyclades, King of Tokyo, and 2 rounds of Codenames
I recently created a list of my 10 favorite board games. In October we will play at least 2 each weekend. Last weekend was Power and Goa. I bring the games eah weekend and wait to see what they want to play so today will be a surprise.
Ice Cool
Alien Frontiers
Scythe (can’t seem to get enough of this right now)
Stronghold (2nd Ed)
Working this weekend. Maybe try and slip in a game or two of Deep Space D-6, Tiny Epic Kingdoms, and maybe a game of Star Wars X-Wing.
Having an epic game of Arkham Horror tonight. Will have 3 big box expansions, including 2 other towns, and 1 small box expansion. EDIT: Also played Kingsburg w/expansion & Glass Road.
Saturday: Eldritch Horror w/expansions & Roll for the Galaxy w/expansion
Sunday: Planning on introducing Kutuzov to a few players. Napoleonic era on the Russian front.
Already played Tiny Epic Western and learned Signorie. The latter of which reminds me of a Feld. Except Feld didn’t design it. I am becoming a huge fan of What’s Your Game as a publisher. They seem to be focusing on strong euros that are like Felds, but are not actually Felds. Zhanguo, Nippon, Madeira, Vasco da Gama, and now Signorie. All are great titles from what has become my favorite upstart publisher. Probably will get to another play of Terraforming Mars and one more run of Signorie tonight
