This weekend I played in the Magic: The Gathering Dragons of Tarkir prerelease with my wife & 9 year old daughter. It was a load of fun! We didn’t win a heck of a lot, but we did walk away with some great new cards, and some spiffy promo cards from a dice-tossing minigame. Really fond of the Dash mechanic that was introduced last set and heavily represented in this set in the colors I played (red & black).
@Stratagon I assume #2 is one of two piratey games on your played list – but I know not which.
Thanks for the Yedo tip. It came up while recently researching worker placements (my latest kick and attempt to ease myself into the waters of the Euro hot springs). I indeed have found it has gotten high marks and has been toted as a way to move out of the McMansion of Waterdeep. After double checking your plays to see if my riddle guess was valid I have placed it high on my more expansive “other” wishlist and bumped Runerbound killer The Witcher (which I have gathered is rather blech) to make room for it here. I trust Dark Lord Stratagon.
Oh, and this coincidental conversation just reminded me that in your new found exploration into Euro-games, you should definitely check out Yedo. It has been accurately described as LoW on steroids. It is a bit deeper, you don’t feel as pigeonholed into a certain strategy as LoW can do. And rather then pasted on, I feel it is marinated in the theme. If feudal Japan is something that may catch your interest(something tells me it might), then you should be pleased with the overall package.
1) Hive? 2)Battlestar Galactica (at least how we play it) 3) Talk of the weekend Sheriff of Nottingham 4)YEDO ????
5) The one and only King of Tokyo (not to be confused with that New York imported cheesecake version)
@Hai, Tom, Race for the Galaxy is clearly the game of choice for psychopaths around the world (check my games played/owned for proof!) I haven’t played Dominion, but after it appeared in Gone Girl, maybe I should look into it…
As for my weekend, I hosted my monthly game gathering Saturday. Instead of listing the games we played, I will list quotes from each game and let you guess what they were.
-“Can I move my grasshopper from under his beetle if I move my beetle on top of his?”
-“My Monkey gives you these cursed masks right before your Brute knocks out his Granny Wata.”
-“Oh dear sir, I plead to you that my satchel contains only four apples, I promise you will not find any crossbows in there like you did last week. On a side note, please enjoy these three coins because I understand the hardships that a loyal civil servant like yourself surely endures.”
-“If anybody wants to trade their Shuriken, my disciple will be waiting in the Tavern to discuss terms. We don’t have long, the watch is on the way.”
-“Since Pandakai did not yield to the King, I will use Jungle Frenzy to attack again. Take three claws!”
I had a gaming day in my appartment yesterday. We had a lot of fun!
We got to play Doodle City, that I got for a gift, Tsuro, Las Vegas, Colosseum, Dungeon Fighter, Fidelitas and Vasco da Gama. I was a very happy girl at the end of the evening. So much so, that I went straight to this site to register the game plays I could!
Evening at Elida last night woth two more friends. They had been playing pretty much all day while I had to wait for the 1-year old to go to bed.
Still got in a game of Fidelitas and Vasco da Gama. Vasco da Gama is a game I’ve played a few times now, but almost always with three. It sure is a lot tougher with one more player.
While The Boy is doing his thing at the FLGS I am going to poke around to see if they have a table copy of Bruges as with all the Aquasphere chatter and things Feldian this week I remember that popped up on my radar awhile ago and was intrigued by all the character cards if not the canals as dressing on a, as @inmarg said, victory point salad.
@Tom Race for the Galaxy? Well that’s indeed product placement – interesting.
@Paladin Have fun Escaping from the Room – ours had a zombie! Beware the ‘Gamemaster’ as I was doing to well on the puzzles and he wound up standing on something that I needed to see…until I called him out on it. 😉
Missing a player for Imperial Assault – the game group went for Worker Placement Placement and we played a round of Argent:The Consortium and Alien Frontiers last night.
The Boy will be taking the Shadow Elves to the semi-final round of the Summoner Wars bracket challenge tomorrow at our FLGS. (Those would be a nifty dice set to win!) Alas the charter was not redrafted to include Alliances this year which would have been cool.
Tomorrow I want to have Co-op Sunday with him and play Darkest Night as I have a new promo character I want to try.
@ Tom
Friday is a great solo only game. Quick setup, 4 difficult levels and quite hard to win at, especially in the beginning.
It is otherwise quite hard to explain as there aren’t much to compare it with.
Zipperback, How is Friday? I have never played a solo only game.
Friday for some light fun, and Robinson Crusoe and solo Pandemic because clearly I hate myself.
@Tatxu Arrrrrr! Ye be right, matey!
@Stratagon #2 is for sure Libertalia, great discovery for me last summer!
This weekend only Pathfinder for me… seems the rainy wether is not heloing to gather the group for playing (on the opposite that it should be…)

@Hai Correct on all but #2.

Had to work this weekend but was able to play 2 solo games of Dead of Winter and 2 solo games ok K2.
Soloing Dead of Winter is not as good as playing with others but I’ve seen worst and I still enjoing it.

Once again it is a smash up weekend for me. With some star realms sprinkled in.
Some D&D Dice Masters for sure 🙂

I lost twice to my wife in Splendor tonight… But it was still a lot of fun. I am still loving Splendor!
Lots of Crokinole will be played Sunday afternoon…and perhaps some takenoko in the evening?
Got some Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards played and also some Diamonds, was able to get in a couple of games of Fallen too, so fun
