What are you playing this weekend? (Dec 19)

Posted by Jim {Power Gamer} | 19-Dec-14 | 38 comments

As much as I tried to resist, the force was too strong and we’ll be getting our copy of Star Wars: Imperial Assault hopefully today, but maybe not until Monday. I’ll probably spend this weekend in preparation for the holidays, learning the rules for the games we hope to play.

Sorting through this mass of cardboard and plastic that is Imperial Assault. Feeling the itch to paint minis again…

So far I’ve played Splendor, Machi Koro, and Diamonds. I have also purchased Shadows of Brimstone(Swamps of Death), Imperial Assault and a few others that I will not get to punch anytime soon.

@Katte That is indeed a good point – anyone in the Cardboard Know makes certain to surround their holiday week with gaming. Perhaps @Jim can create an extended ‘What are you Playing?’ to encompass from The Eve to New Year’s Day to list not only what is being played but to share those new gifts of gaming we acquire

I spent most of my morning today visiting some of the bigger game shops with my husband. Picked up Elder Signs so hope to maybe fit in a game tomorrow. With the holidays so close I find myself short on time. Next week however will be all gaming all the time… well except for food and sleep of course. 😛

@ Dialectic

Maria is a fantastic game I heartily recommend. Takes some time but well worth it.

Finally got my head around ‘Maria’, so may tray bringing that out if the crew’s got 5 hrs to spare! Otherwise, just picked up Archaeology – The Card Game & Fungi (Morels) and am meaning for some more Terra Mystica & Game Of Thrones if there’s enough of us!

After having been sold out for weeks, 7 Wonders: Babel was finally available at my local game store, so this weekend’s primary game is definitely decided.

I fear I will be wrapping more games than playing them. I would at least like to get a trial of Assault on Doomrock in as we didn’t get to touch it last weekend.

@Obi Happy Holidays to you! Enjoy the outdoors and the in boards!

I just got my copy of 221B Baker Street: The Master Detective Game (a bit of an impulse buy, I’ll admit), and read through the first case. Wow! Hoping the Mrs. wants to play through this with me soon. Otherwise, I have lots of Loot and Uno this week with my nephews coming over.

D&D Attack Wing and Colt Express! Both need to be added to your database for sure!

A few Kickstarters trickled in this week: Spells of Doom and Zombicide: Rue Morgue… but my priority for the weekend will be Arificium (which I failed to get to last weekend), Sail to India and Abyss.

@Ob1 – enjoy! Sounds like fun!

Likely finishing up Tempest Rising of Pathfinder Skull&Shackles tomorrow. Other than that I’m likely to get in some gaming both Sunday and Monday but open for almost any game.

I’m also close to pulling the trigger on a late year buy as I’ve promised myself to almost shut down on buying games for 2015 as I actually need to start playing them…

I’m starting my two weeks Chrismas holiday today and I’m going to the chalet so no TV and no internet only outdooring and board gaming.

I don’t know yet what I will play since I will let my non-gaming family decide between different games in my collection.

There will be some party game like Saboteur, Resistance and Bang…a lot of casual games like Ticket to ride, Dice Town, Relic Runner, Jamaica, King of Tokyo….

The ultimate goal…be able to play Dead of Winter with the family

To all of you and to all your family I wish you a merry Chrismas

I grabbed Jaipur and Pandemic: The Cure, so more of those! I’ve played each of them twice now, and I’m looking forward to more. Once I have a good grasp on P:TC I’ll be sure to drop a review for you all.

I ordered a lot of games this week: character add-on and 2 adventures of Pathfinder ACG: Skull and shackles, Patronize, Runewars: Banners of war, A touch of evil and a nice dice tray:)
Unfortunately I wont be getting these until mid next week, maybe even after x-mas eve.
To wait I’ll try to get through the first mission after the tutorial in Battlelore: Command. I’ve tried to beat the map 8 times now but its extremely difficult…

EDIT:
Later last night I got 2 of 3 packages with the games I’ve ordered! So last night was unboxing and getting the games in order, reading rules etc. Can’t wait to try them all! I’ll convince my wife to play A touch of Evil with me tomorrow at least.

By the way, I feel I should point out for the folks on BGdot: AEG is having a huge holiday sale on everything in their online store, with virtually everything being 50% off or more, until January 4th (with games to ship as of the week of January 12th). Some really great deals in there, including favorites like Trains, Smash Up (and expansions), and Istanbul.

Picked up DC Comics: Forever Evil last weekend and looking forward to playing it again. Also snagged three games from Amazon this week during a gold box sale: Takenoko, Power Grid, and Splendor.
