Dominion seems to have been a staple in gaming for years. I haven’t played any of the many versions, but I would love to try the base game or Intrigue.
Dominion remains my favorite game full stop. Yes, thematically there’s nothing really there but that doesn’t bother me particularly. Mechanically it’s so incredibly tight that it flows exceptionally well. It’s also amazing how uniquie each play session depending on what cards that you’re using.
As you might have seen in another of my posts, I am not a deckbuilding mechanic fan. Dominion got old for me very fast for several reasons which I’m not going to go into. Fortunately for me, the people in my gaming groups share my sentiment.
I did play Thunderstone for awhile. It is my most played deckbuilder. IMO, the dungeon crawl aspect was a better mechanic than the land grab mechanic in Dominion. However, T-stone has long since been kicked to the curb.
I have played a few games of Dominion and may some day circle back around to gathering it en masse into the collection, but I cut my teeth on deckbuilding gateway with Thunderstone and have always found it difficult to look back.
Dominion was my first deckbuilding game but it has been replaced by Ascension, Thunderstone and Legendary
I like Dominion but only have the base set so far. I think I will be getting intrigue very soon and then definitely one of these.
I always preferred the theme in Thunderstone so much more so I tended to shy away from Dominion most times. However, I have only ever played the base game. Maybe after I explore these expansions I’ll hunt them down and give Dominion another shot. We’ll see.
I have only played DC Deck building and Legendary in a deck building style game, didn’t think I needed to add more, but I may have to give Dominion a chance in the future.
Prosperity is probably my favorite expansion for Dominion and Seaside might even be second on that list. Too bad Dark Ages really destroyed all the fun in Dominion for me.
Congratulations to Richard!
I may be in the minority, but I prefer the Ascension “Center Deck” style when it comes to deck builders over the Dominion style. And before anybody says it’s theme, I’ve tried out Trains, the Cryptozoic system, Legendary system, and the Star Realms system.
I just like the rotating system, and the timing that comes with it. I also feel that the luck of cards coming out randomly helps newer players perform better in the game.
