Wow, Fantastiqa looks very interesting…can’t believe I’ve never heard of it before now.
Sweet, got my Explorer up to Level 5.
I got my copy of Fantastiqa on eBay (brand new) earlier this year for $50, but I had to watch for a few weeks. The board helps keep things corralled, so I would recommend it if it’s only $10 more. But the Rucksack Edition is going to work fine should tracking down the Enchanted Edition get too costly.
Great game, by the way. I like it best with 2 players, and we get it out about twice a month. It’s awesome that you can fit the game to your time frame – if you’ve got an hour you can play the 7-trophy objective card; if you’ve got 2+ hours you can play to 12 trophies. That flexibility gets it played more often than Thunderstone or Heroes of Metro City in my house.
These both sound awesome. Fortress America sounds like one of those games that take forever (which I love) that I cannot seem to get anyone else to play with me. Fantastiqa, on the other hand, sound right in my wheelhouse. I suspect I could find people to play this with little difficulty.
It also appears you can get the Fantastiqa Rucksack edition at:
http://www.eaglegames.net/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GRY045-05
for $40.00 with free shipping. That seems like an easier pill to swallow, and just omits the board and some duplicate cards.
@Jim will do, been meaning to sit down and write a lot of reviews, but things keep on coming up. So I will hammer out something decent for Fortress America.
I don’t think I’ve played the new version of Fortress America (friend owns it), but Fantastiqa is a great game. It recently got Kickstarted again and I think it now uses separate game circles instead of a large board. I like the board, so not sure if this changes anything…maybe just cosmetic.
I agree with you, thegordonshow. I’ve been following Fantastiqa since it came out, but never could get it. So I backed the Kickstarter for it this year hoping to get one of the first new prints.
Fantastiqa is one I’ve been intrigued by for a while.
Can’t seem to find it anywhere to try it out though, and it’s a bit pricey.
Fortress America will definitely need more reviews, if you’ve played it please review it!!
