Alcatraz: The Scapegoat is a semi-cooperative game where players, as inmates of that most infamous prison, must accomplish together six stages of an escape plan. Some tasks can be accomplished alone. Other tasks rely upon the cooperation of fellow prisoners. Loose alliances are formed and then quickly broken. The escape occurs when the 6-stage plan is complete at which point, the inmates that are indispensible to the plan will escape to freedom. One inmate however, will be left behind…
The revised co-op theme intrigues me. I love co-op games, but Z-Man Games seems to have taken the genre that extra mile needed for long-term play. I might just buy this, although the theme of prison break does not really get me going.
Hummm … ok Dad, I’ll check this game fondly (and see prices and freights it).
I like games with different mechanics.
Having one loser is a very interesting mechanic. Could lead to some great dynamics during the game. Would love to hear thoughts from anyone that has played this.
Interesting topic to be explored, but would have very complex rules? After all if the game consume some time playing with the rules relatively easy, the game can become a differentiator for board game collectors like me for example.
That is a tasty sounding theme. Need to play this one to see if it comes across, but it sounds really cool.
I wanted to demo this at GenCon, but the line was too long. 🙁
