I wish I could have gone this year… Work is always getting in the way of my hobbies.
As a Catan fan, I found Explorers & Pirates to be a great find. Merchants of Europe was excellent, but too similar to Settlers of America for my taste.
Favorite new game = Banditos, made by a small company. What’s not to like about being a 1980’s American driving south of the border to rob banks in Mexico?
The best place to be is the Stronghold Games booth. Great games to demo and great deal if you demo enough of them. On top of that all their people are super nice. Also, got meet and chat with the great Timothy Zahn.
Having a blast! Crokinole, Train Games, Pitch Car, Battle Tech, D&D, Memoir ’44 Overlord, plus many demos. May be bringing home Caveman Curling, Pirates vs Dinosaurs, & BattleTech Intro Box! Oh, picked up Dread (Indie Horror RPG) and Hamlet’s Hit Points by Robin Laws!
A few games were seen for the first time at Origins. Ace Detective (8th Summit) and Dark City expansion for Legendary (Upper Deck) were introduced. Sneak peaks of Red Dragon Inn 4 and Krosmaster Arena (current and recent Kickstarters) were also featured. Arcane Wonders and Rio Grande each had a large room to demo their new expansions, Mage Wars: Conquest of Kumanjaro Spell Tome and Dominion: Guilds, respectively. Wizkids showcased Star Trek: Attack Wing, and Steve Jackson himself played Ogre. Besides Mage Wars and Red Dragon Inn, my attention was focused on some previously released games, including 7 Wonders, Quarriors, Escape: The Curse of the Temple, Zombicide, Sentinels of the Multiverse, Rowboat, Hike and Agents of Smersh…and the convention still has 2 days to go!
