Backing a project can be a great thing, but please do the research on a game before you put money into it. Happy exploring!

Hey, is there gonna be a new article sometime soon? If so, please have a look at Kingdom Death: Monster (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/poots/kingdom-death-monster).
I think it mainly appeals to miniature gamers because of the stunning quality of the game pieces but it is actually a dungeon crawler type boardgame so I think it belongs here. 🙂
Just to show how popular it is, they made $214,000 on the first day of going on Kickstarter…
I pledged to a couple!
Boss Monster looks to be awesome! I will be pledging to that and this week I will be putting in my Settlers game base pledge as well. Lots of neat stuff on Kickstarter!
Update: just played Eight Minute Empire and it’s really slick and fun. It took about 30 minutes with my nearly-six-year old, who took to it like a duck to water. Very happy with this one.
I have the print & play bits for Eight Minute Empire, which looks like a good, quick-play Euro, and hopefully we’ll be giving it a go this weekend.
Nothing Personal is going to make a boatload.
Small Box Games does a great job with their Kickstarter items. In the past, they have offered exclusives that weren’t sold elsewhere, and they emphasize that Kickstarter bonuses are only available as promos and won’t be for sale after. Their pre-Kickstarter business model was all based on preorders. John Clowdus took preorders for a certain amount of time, and then sent those to be printed. They didn’t really have stock available for sale until Omen came along, so Kickstarter is a really good fit for them.
Greater than Games also does a great job with Kickstarter. They have been very upfront that they may reprint the promos in the future, but they will be altered from the originals to keep the Kickstarter rewards a true limited run. Both these companies make great games, and I don’t think you can go wrong with either of them.
Thanks for the update – I feel a bit like a broken record, but I’m seeing more and more publisher-ready games coming out here. This is fine if they were all offering unique items that were not available later on with street-release of the games, but few do.
For example, what’s the incentive to go in for Lost Legends? Nothing Personal also looks good, but if they release their unique game-designer cards with the street-release or as free promos to the stores, I’ll go batty. Sentinels of the Multiverse at least makes it clear that this support means they’ll print more for the stores and offers some goodies for it.
Unless a good game isn’t going to make the pledge, I’m going to try and hold back until the stores have them in stock (I keep saying it hoping it will come true 😉 ). Oh, to be clear, I love the quality of most of the games I’ve seen on KS, I just don’t like the $ & shipping aspect. What say you?
