Backing a project can be a great thing, but please do the research on a game before you put money into it. Happy exploring!

PSA: Indie B&C just released a new KS for a FP Expansion, Flash Point: Call of Duty. The KS Edition comes with some additional boards and cards and is limited to 3,000 copies with capped pledge levels and ultimately based on first-come first-serve.
I’m just back from vacation, so I’m trying to catch up on these…
I’m sure Kickstarter is bereft of good projects right now because of Zombicide. The day it launched all the projects I’m backing stopped dead in their tracks, and haven’t picked up since. I’ve always assumed most of the Zombicide backers were eBay prospectors buying up 10+ copies a piece to flip them for a 4x return in a year… but those people probably don’t back other board game projects to begin with, so I guess I was wrong. I can’t believe this game has such broad appeal. I believe even Walmart carries it now.
I’ve had a lot of campaigns close recently, so my carry-overs are starting to thin out: Harbour, Historia, Luck O’ the Dice, Tiny Epic Defenders, 8 Planets, Through the Ages, Spells of Doom and Dungeon Lords.
I’m almost certainly going to drop Spells of Doom due to concerns I mentioned last week, but I’m dragging my feet for now. I’m also beginning to waiver on Historia (I have no civilization games, so I don’t know if I’ll like the genre… I think I want to play Through the Ages before I start spending money on others).
I’ve only backed one new project… and it’s the big one. I’ve always been so torn by Zombicide; it’s a simple and thematic game I love playing and will happily lose a night to, but the amount of “exclusive” gameplay material – and the disgusting amounts they go for on eBay – really turns me off. I think Cool Mini Millions focuses on making this a spectacle rather than a game… but unfortunately for me, the game behind the spectacle is outstanding.
I’ve only had the base set, and always refused to spend more money on this, but the new game mechanics I’m missing out on in the Season 2 and Season 3 boxes are starting to weigh on me. And I can’t just jump on Season 3 without having everything that comes before… and unfortunately well over half of the playable characters in the game can only be found on eBay… so in order to back this, I had to spend a few months’ worth of car payments to grab all the Season 1 and 2 exclusive content I missed out on. At least I know I like the game.

Fun looking month to meeeeee ^_^
All our recent sun and heat have had me floating in the pool more than at the game table; my cross to bear I guess. 😉
I’m in for Virus the Card Game, Casual Game Insider, The Captain is Dead, and MALPRACTICE. I’m going to take a closer look at Antidote. I didn’t back it earlier, but I don’t remember why. I’m curious how that type of game will work with just two players.
As of right now, Shadows of Arkham needs $459 to meet its funding goal and 6 hours to do it. I got a copy of the print and play, and first glance has it looking like a quick, fun game with a Lovecraft theme.
Give it a look!
I’m a big fan of the Mouse Guard comics so I was pretty excited to see that the author, David Petersen, had gotten together with Burning Wheel creator Luke Crane to create a 2-player light strategy game. Mouse Guard: Swords and Strongholds looks beautiful and I’ll probably back it…as soon as I see some rules for it.
I wonder if Ophir will end up getting funded. Very likable project, surprised it isn’t more successful. Wishing creators luck in the last few days!
Not just you, Granny. It’s been a slow week for KS games (guess everyone is waiting until after Gen Con?) Nothing new to add here, either.
I think everything I have on my list was on last week. Can that be possible?
