Holy Finger Flicking Good! Catacombs 2ed exploded this morning. Canadian by birth – if not by current life – a part of me wishes for a small 12 hour economic crisis to affect exchange rates in the next 5 hours. 😉
The Final 24
Both Catacombs 2ed and SDE:Forgotten King should be ending rather high on the pledge totem today.
Catacombs 2ed is chock full of extra goodies now – surpassing 1st ed in my opinion. The all-in pledge definitely has some value, but if playing credit safe – I would definitely look at The Base and Caverns of Soloth add-on as worth the weight in wooden disk (and a rather solid Gelatinous Cube)
SDE:Forgotten King the add-ons might be worth a retail consideration but the Base Pledge of 100 smackeroos nets you quite a bit of plastic AND game. (An unheard of combination at times) After a long heart token to heart token talk (an a glass of the grape) Le Forgotten King convinced me to stay Super and toss in at least another 10 for a cutie figure. (I can do more damage via pledge manager if I see fit ;))
And Sentinel Tactics just got crazy – crazy crazy good crazy – *drooooooooooooool* I had to use the word ‘Top Loader’ in the comments that was crazy eyes gamer crazy. 😉 Much like ol Spooky Mulder said about the Truth — The Sentinel Love is Out There
(And there’s still a week to go!)
@Granny: I was about to do the same thing. 🙂
I haven’t seen a copy of it before, but it looks awesome. Day 1backer and proud of it.
This is a game I already own, but think it’s worth a look for those who have not played it yet… Chopstick Dexterity Mega Challenge 3000.
If you like dexterity games, you’ll like this.

@Urosh Thank you and everyone here at BG for your support! I’m so happy we’re funded and am excited to soon be talking about projects that involve games instead of just work to build a cafe! 🙂
As for other games, I enjoyed the family friendly Super Tooth – played it last week as the creator is local (and a Spielbound supporter). Probably wouldn’t play it more than twice in a row – definitely simple filler.
I’m confused about Among the Stars considering I just backed it 2 weeks ago and now they’re doing another one? I could have gotten a better deal being an early supporter of their latest – feels like they’re turning KS into their own Amazon storefront.
And Coup’s expansion which will be at GenCon likely before KS backers receive it (or at least will be close).
Got in on MERCS Recon. Looks like a fun co-op and lots of stretch goals unlocked so far (just over 400K) and certainly some more unlocked in the final week.
Just pledged $45 to support Area 1851. Not the riskiest investment, I admit, but it IS my first foray into Kickstarter.
Kaleb, grats on your BG Cafe funding!
Good to see Among the Stars is getting another run, I’ve heard a lot about it and couldn’t find it anywhere. Still thinking about Mercs Recon too.
SDE:FK holds value at the Always Super base pledge of $100 and in the Warbands at $30. The individual heros, creeps etc. feel overpriced in the KS versus likely retail.
I would also say as a (very likely) backer in the UK, this KS holds much stronger value than might be the case for a US backer. The original SDE box set is currently retailling for ~£60 which is about $95 at current exchange.
The unknown additional cost lurks in the shipping, but c’est la vie.
Ahhh…a hot cup of tea and the smell of potential cardboard in the morning…let’s see what is Hai Kicking.
Area 1851: The colorful surreal art style depicting ‘Cowpoke, Cowpunk, and Cowprobe’ of the Area has had a good run. A dozen or so ‘bonus’ cards have unlocked and little scoring saucers. This interesting blend of worker placement and gadget building is worth a look during the final countdown today. And as one Game Salute dies – two more rise from the ashes like a Phoenix of middleman production. 😉
Coup: You’ve got me watching my back and finally backing my watch. 😉
Catacombs: This campaign went from ‘I’ve got it already, but the new style is cute’ to ‘Why not?’ to ‘This is going to be better than the First Edition! IT MUST BE MINE!’ If you haven’t experienced this dex driven dungeon delve – you should. If you already have – two words: Gelatinous Cube. Finger Flickin’ Good!
Treasures & Traps: This one has gateway nostalgia value from college and a sense of The M-Word fun. A quick and sometimes very dirty dealing ‘Opening Act’ before your big Dungeon Crawl night. Plus a chance to grab Dungeoncraft which I have wanted since before the avatars went Kick Wholesale.
Sentinel Tactics *droooooooooooooolllllllllllllll
While the campaign hit a sort of ‘creative cap’ before its potential ‘funding cap’ – there’s a lot of Sentinel Love in the Cardboard Only, Mini Only, or Combo Meal pledges. Also some potential ‘imagination knick knacks’ falling from >G minds into the ‘Add-on Bundle’ as the Multiverse capes up for Endgame in two weeks.
Westerly: Third times a charm? This parody of the pixelated prairie of yesteryear runs high on humor and nostalgia and keeps breaking up with me and yet I come back. Hit the trail as ‘trail hits YOU!’ and you try to reach the Left Coast with a low body count. SNAKE BIT!
Storyteller Cards A standard deck. A D-20 with a shuffle. A host of micro game rules. Charming art. A little something for everyone.
Miskatonic School for Girls:Holiday BreakLovecraft meets Hogwarts? Yes please! The art is charming while being Chaz Addams creepy. There’s just something about trying to pass pre-calc while not loosing your sanity non-Euclidian style that makes me giggle. This game has a bum rap in some circles. I enjoy its ‘I’ll build my deck and sabotage yours’ mechanic. It might be too girlie for the Big Boy Clubhouse, but they can have their *cough* Tanto Maids and I’ll continue my studies at dear ol MSfG. 🙂
Conquest of Speros I gots my eye on you…
Among the Stars If you like 7 Wonders and are keen on taking your cards to space…where no one can here you draft, I give AtS a thumbs up. Variable Race powers and a multitude of edge giving locations and Ambassadors to fit to your station make for a quick and interesting draft game. I’ll be grabbing what ever extras this campaign dishes out.
Beastie Bash! I wish I had wee ones! I want to poke this game in the belly…SO HARD!
SDE:FK I will walk your maze this weekend after my Day One pledge and then you and I will have a long talk about where this relationship is going. Decisions, decisions….
Recon You best be unlocking some MYTH bonuses! *squinty eye face*
Heavy Steam Hmmmm….probably on The Boy’s list. *sigh* Although his Moriarty driving a Spring-Heeled Jack mech and my collab idea with Fairytale friends of The Twiddle Sisters and a Wonderland Caterpillar made the Fairytale Games:The Battle Royale crossover list – so I’ll take some solace in that.
Bullfrogs looks like a neat concept, will most likely back it. Love how they use the frog theme throughout the project – from the age appropriateness to # of players to art on cards.
I hope so too, about Bullfrogs, Gordon. ^_^ Also, the new expansion of Miskatonic School for Girls looks cool. Oooooo…
EndGame Cafe in Oakland, CA is expanding and running a Kickstarter to fund it. I’m on the other coast, but thought some people here might be interested in sponsoring what seems to be a cool FLGS.
@Sir Gamesalot I’m surprised TheKick doesn’t just post a front page FAQ called ‘What to do with your tax return…
All I want to know is…when does the money fairy arrive to refill my wallet so I can back more projects? Bullfrogs, Treasures & Traps, Sentinel Tactics, oh my! What’s a broke gamer to do? I guess I’ll have to wait and pick up what I can when it’s released.
Hmmm…if the former Inception game was Inception friendly why did it mysteriously become Dream Heist??? *spins the top*
And…a Miskatonic School for Girls Expansion?!?!?!!!?
Ia! Ia! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I’M IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Sadly, since I grabbed the base on a post KS side deal – I’m a day late! Curse you Lazy Kickstarter Sunday Brunch and your non-Euclidean Geometry!)
@Account @Granny I am still closing my eyes to the maze of SDE:FK. I will carefully ponder it on Monday to see if the $100 Always Super is the walk away bargain – with Catacombs upping the ante – the Kickbudget is in tatters. 🙁
*top still spinning*
(@Account And to make matters worse your review of City of Iron makes me want that also! *shakes fist*)
Bullfrogs looks like it’d be a lot of fun. These are all very interesting campaigns but nothing pops out to me besides the former.
@Account Deletion This is why I backed out of SDE. If I can get it all later at a possible discount… there is no point in wasting my money now… when there are several other games that might not make it without some help…or may not be available at a later date. We know SDE will be available. I’d rather pitch in on Bullfrogs.
So now that we know the total expense of an “all-in” SDE:FK pledge, I decided to compare it to the cost of Dragonback Peaks (the retro-title for the original Super Dungeon Explore).
The all-in pledge for SDE:FK is $295, and that will be the final number. This includes (if my math is correct) 14 heroes, 129 monsters (not unique monsters, but total figure count), 48 loot cards, 42 treasure cards and 12 dungeon tiles.
I had to go to a few different web stores, but I was able to piece together everything made for SDE:DBP at $278. This includes 18 heroes, 123 monsters (again, total figure count), 48 loot cards, 44 treasure cards and 6 dungeon tiles.
So you’re paying $17 more via Kickstarter to receive 6 additional dungeon tiles plus a few “new to the series” items like pets (7 miniatures), Arcade Cards and Explore Cards (approx. 70 total).
I’m not saying it’s a bad deal, and I’m going to keep my all-in pledge… but I am highly dubious that there’s any real discount on this Kickstarter (and of course no exlusives – which I’m happy about). It looks pretty likely that you can hold onto your money now and still get everything for the game in early 2015 for the same price (or a little cheaper). We’re just paying retail price now for a pre-order shipping in December.
Also… I backed Bullfrogs. Looks awesome. And I’m keeping an eye on Dig Down Dwarf.
