What are you playing this weekend? (May 5)

Thanks @Stargazer1. I have been enjoying EH for quite a while now and was wondering if it would be worth it to give AH a chance. Sounds like it will be worth it despite the nasty rumors. (I love the rich theme enough to handle a slow set up/ reading a thick rule book. Glad to hear of another gamer who enjoys both!

@Chereaux: Ahhhh, the age old question Arkham Horror or Eldritch Horror? I have a host of Eldritch Horror plays under my belt, several including a few expansions. I prefer Arkham Horror over Eldritch Horror. However, I do like some things in EH. I like how each Big Baddie has a tailored Mythos deck. I also like the fact that the clues are much more tailored to the theme. Unfortunately the ‘kill all’ Mythos cards can be real frustrating. You’ll be playing along for about 2 hours when suddenly a Mythos card which deals massive stamina or sanity damage is drawn, killing all investigators. Oh well, game over. I also don’t like how items are acquired in EH. It’s relatively easy to obtain items for little effort.

EH was sold as a streamlined AH which plays quicker. It doesn’t meet that expectation. EH is streamlined to a degree but game length is the same. It’s funny because even though it’s only a bit more streamlined, I feel as though play loses quite a lot. EH just feels much more mechanical to me. I love the detail in AH, the theme really shines through. The expansions for AH add much more to the game in flavor, new mechanics and more stuff in general. I’ve always felt as though the AH rules got a undeserving bad rap. I almost didn’t purchase AH because of the rules rumors (for you Mythos fans, see what I did there!), but glad I did. Arkham Horror is still one of my favorites after all these years and just a fun game, win or lose.

Played Lotus, Harbour and Starving Artists. First time playing Lotus and Starving Artists, both of which were great games.

Vast: The Crystal Caverns

Only got a couple of plays of Carcassonne in.

Not strictly gaming, but DASH9 was this weekend. It’s an all-day puzzle hunt done on the same day in about a dozen cities around the world and it was super fun. For anyone who likes puzzles, check out playdash.org.
