@ Granny
No, I have not played the dice version of Bang. I think you hit on every reason the ‘full’ game did not appeal to me. And if those reasons are still present in the dice game, then I’m probably not going to like it. I’m not saying it’s a bad game…it just didn’t do it for me.
One of these days we’ll have to get Firefly to the table again. I think the Tips about focusing on the quests were right on the mark. This would shorten the game considerably.
I really enjoy Bang! The Dice Game because it can be played with a large number of people in less than 30 minutes. This game is always on our table when big groups are over. It isn’t as much fun when just the 3 of us are home playing games though. I like the hidden identity mechanic.
I’ve never played Firefly but really enjoyed the show so if it ever shows up I’d love to give it a go.
I have only played Firefly once, and it definitely stays true to its theme. I’m still not sure about the game, but want to play again to see wheee it stands in my collection.
Bang! The Dice Game fixes all the issues I had with the original Bang! It is a quick, TRUE filler with much less downtime, and no player elimination. It comes out on a regular basis. There’s no great strategy here, but it is one of the better “take that” games.
@Stargazer1
Have you played the dice version? If Bang! took too long, or you didn’t like the player elimination problem (compounded by what could be a very long game), the dice game really does fix these issue. However, if you don’t like the hidden information or take-that aspects of the game… those are still present. It is definitely a tactical game. There’s not much in the way of strategy. Firefly, on the other hand, is really just for fans of the show (of which I am one)…although I’ve heard good things about the expansions.
Didn’t particularly care for either of these games.
Firefly has some beautiful components. The artwork on the paper money is awesome! However, our first game took forever. The rulebook is confusing and 3 hours later someone finally completed the first part of the quest. The mechanic where someone gets to place the big bad ship (can’t recall its name) seems broken, as its easy to avoid. Never saw the show so wasn’t invested in the theme, and the mechanics didn’t pull me in.
Bang didn’t do it for me. I just don’t find it interesting. So I’m thinking I should stay away from the dice game too.
