Eight months and growing
March marks eight months since BoardGaming.com launched. It is very exciting to see how far the site has come and how many of you have been enjoying the site! We look forward to continuing to make the site even better.
You can help the community grow
Getting BoardGaming.com into the hands of as many gamers as possible is crucial. Who better to help spread the word than the fans and users of the site! We greatly appreciate that many of you have already invited many gamers to join.
To make it even easier for you to invite others we’re encouraging you to invite others via facebook, twitter, your web site, your newsletters, and more! All you have to do is include the beta registration code and your custom invite link found on our Send Invites page.
Helping spread the word is very valuable to us. Because of this, the Recruiting Quest achievements also award Gems which are worth 1,000 BG gold each!

Still trying so hard to get my group to do anything!
I sent a wave of invitations out and almost all got eaten by spam filters. When I sent email invitations no one that signed up got linked to me for credit. Glad to add new members , but disappointed in overall system.
Since the BGG outage going on, I started digging for other Board Game sites. Not sure how I never found this on Google or through any other sites, but I’m absolutely glad I found this site. The set up to be basicaly playing a game while you’re talking is great. The more rewards you can give out through the GEMS and gold the better. I like the suggestion below that Gems should give some unique advantages to the site. That would enlist more users. By far the word on this site needs to start getting pushed to larger audiences. It has great potential.
The only suggestion I would give though is design a way that we can contribute much easier to the games listed on this site. Look at BGG. People create them all the time, and it’s simple. Rather than sending in suggestions (as I saw 1 or 2 a week), give everyone else the ability to start “adding” games. That way this site can grow to the size of BGG pretty quick. Also try to add a way for the search function to separate out if you want articles, game reviews etc.
Other than that..add a forum and we’re set! Loving this site so far!
So if gems are just large values of gold, then there isn’t much difference.
Maybe gems can have the option to redeem special badges, avatars or change the color of the wax seal you have. That way users see a wax seal with a number that shows their gamer level, but the color shows how boss they are at donating, recruiting or something.
I joined through an invite a few weeks ago (and have been inviting lots of friends), so the process is definitely working :]
I’m always looking for new minions.
Happy Anniversary BG.com, this really is such a great spot on the information super highway, and I love being a part of it! Keep up the great work guys.
The only difference in rewarding gems is that they are worth 1,000 gold each, so the recruiting quests reward a lot more gold than the other quests.
As far as I can tell from the page describing them, the only thing you can do with gems is turn them into gold. So what’s different about awarding gems for a recruiting quest, compared to the gold you reward for lots of other quests?
