@ hskrfn822:
The way it works now is not too bad in fact – instead of “advancing” the supporter badges one can collect them. You can buy the golden one and then add silver and bronze ones if you wish.
You should figure out a way to make the support badges cumulative.
If someone spends $50 to buy a gem, turn the gem into gold, and then purchases a Gold Supporter badge with the gold, AND THEN a month or two later does the same thing all over again, does he/she then get the Platinum since there were 2 x $50 support purchases?
To me, you’d think that you’d want to encourage support donations, and thus would want to enable cumulative payments to count.
Yeah, I know…you can buy the gems, turn it into gold, and just not buy a Gold one right away and just save the Gold until you decide to support the site again, but what sense does that make? What difference does it really make to boardgaming.com whether the payments are 10x$10, 5x$20, 2x$50 or 1x$100 ?? Every single dollar helps. If you reward folks for continuing to support the site financially, instead of just for the amount the spend for each one time purchase, you’ll see a greater amount of people willing to support and a greater amount of cash in the site’s coffers.
This site keeps getting better and better — and whoot — more quests and the invites are turned back on!
When I look at eric’s avatar, I think of the church lady, played by Dana Carvey of SNL.
I need an avatar of a skinny guy with brown hair and goatee:-)
I thought about doing the grandma as my avatar way back (that sounds wrong), but since someone had already claimed that, I turned away.
@David
I’m just waiting for the bearded glasses guy with a pencil avatar. Then I’ll be set.
Will gems be used for other purposes besides conversion to gold?
ericbjohnson ain’t afraid to rep that granny…lol love it!
Of course, I’ve developed a gender crisis because of it. :-0
Thank you for this! I look forward to even more badge options in the future.
Except Eric Johnson was smart and chose the granny avatar to be different! haha.
At least now I can pick a border color and try to be different. Until somebody else picks the same color… :p
PS: I really love the fact that about half of the high level people on the site all use the smiling guy w/glasses and pencil. 🙂 makes me laugh, ah so confused.
I love all the additions! It adds so much color and personality to the site. The interface is very friendly, and I agree that the gems look like a good way to fund the site.
Giving the users a possibility of buying gems seems to be a solid solution to earn funds for the site. In order to get youngsters (and less rich players) a chance to get gems they could be available in limited amounts to be earned. Maybe not in too many standard quests (not to inflate them!) but for example in upcoming contests or as prizes for reaching certain milestones.
Keep up your good work!
Oh, one thing: supporting badges cannot be bought yet, a bug message appears.
Edit: it works now.
