Rather than talking about the games we’re playing this weekend, let’s talk about board game conferences!
Speaking for the BoardGaming.com team, we’re definitely going to be at Gen Con, but we’re hoping to make it to other conferences as well, especially any in the southwest.
- What Board Game Conferences do you go to?
- How big are they?
- What is it about them that makes them worth attending?
- Which conferences do you see publishers participating in?
@David Phillips: You just missed MagFest this past weekend. Lots of gaming (and music).
Also Strategicon!
This year will be my third attending Gamestorm in Vancouver, WA. It’s the only boardgame convention that I’ve ever attended, so I can’t really compare to other conventions. However, I enjoy it because it’s four days that I get to focus on my hobby with some friends. It’s also located in a hotel, so lodging is nearby. And last year we discovered some great restaurants within walking distance.
As for size, I really can’t estimate. I know that it’s not a huge convention, but it’s definitely bustling in the gaming areas.
I second Strategicon– President’s Day weekend, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. Definitely a fun game convention– I’m going again next month with a bunch of buddies.
@David
That stinks!
My favorite is in Los Angeles – Strategicon (which happens 3 times a year). I really like Stratigicon because the focus is on gaming as opposed to advertising.
Boardgaming is really taking off in the LA/Orange County Area, there are multiple conventions and meetup groups.
The Washington DC area is quiet this year. It is actually kind of depressing.
