Paizo Publishing | Published: 2014 - Lords of Waterdeep: Scoundrels of Skullport
Wizards of the Coast | Published: 2013
These games will be explorable until next Monday, February 23rd
After you’ve explored these games, let us know what you think about them in the comments below!
@HaiKulture
Thanks. Yeah I’ve played some D&D but moved over to Pathfinder now. I have an extensive 3/3.5 ed D&D collection my self + the 8 first books for 4th ed. We went from 3.5 to Pathfinder, wanted to try 4th, but neither the rule set nor the updated Forgotten Realms campaign setting caught us. So we have stayed with Pathfinder since.
@AD
Thank you very much!
@Stargazer1 – I actually cleared a little more time to focus on it, so it ended up better than I expected!
@ AD – Wow! If that review isn’t high quality then I’d love to see what you consider high quality!! Thanks for the review! I was able to complete the exploration.
@Ragu – I’ll try to post something today, but make sure I have something posted by tomorrow. It won’t be high quality, because my primary focus is finishing a few site reviews that are past due, but it will at least be something you guys can rate to finish!
@ Account Deletion:
Any hope of that user review to help out the 3 guys that wrote reviews that cannot complete the exploration? 🙂
@Stratagon Haha! That was beautifully put. Oh Jack the Downgrader will you ever win? Oh wait…you always do…
@X-hawk So I guess you’ve played some D&D, right? 😉 If you need any 3.5 books give a shout. One of The Boy’s old tyme chums moved back to the area about two years ago and they decided to relive college days by starting an RPG group. After running about ebay for 3 months grabbing up old 3.5/3 books, they decided it was more viable to just go with the sideways successor Pathfinder. I was happy because my Rogue can actually do things now beyond backstab half a dozen times. You would think after the first Random Guard #3 would feel something in his spine and turn around to see what’s what.
But I agree – Lords of Waterdeep is an excellent starter – with Scoundrels it’s a game. I don’t think anyone should enter Waterdeep without it.
@HaiKulture I’ll do my best:)
So here we go…
I’m a Pathfinder fan (played D&D from 2nd edition until 4th when I switched to Pathfinder). And as a young board gamer I couldn’t resist the lure of “a quick and short RPG-style board/card game” from the campaign I know so well. As you can see from my plays of PACG: RotR I counting 165 scenarios played. And when Skull and Shackels was announced I was sold – even more after playing it and feeling this was a much improved game compared to its predecessor.
As of LoW: Scoundrels of Skullport the tale is quite the same. I did tell that I played D&D for quite a few years, right? 😉
Well, Faerun (Forgotten Realms campaign setting) must be the single campaign setting I know the most of. I read tons of novels, DMed alot of games (self made only,- I had to read up on everything to I had the “facts” right) and played all the video games. So, again, as a young board gamer I was enthralled by LoW (I’ve DM a campaign in Waterdeep so pretty much know the city quite well…).
I have a lot of non-gamer friends and when I introduced them to LoW they loved it! (throwing some Big Bang Theory lines at the top – which I didn’t understand since I don’t watch the show).
The base game is good, but I tend to like more heavier games and the expansion SoS came along it game the game a bit more meat for my gaming group to enjoy it as well.
What are you guys take on these two games?
Yes, that’s an excellent idea. Writing a review for a game should count as a step twoards exploring it!
Looks like I won’t be able to complete the exploration quest because one of the Scoundrels reviews is my own and I can’t rate it.
Would think that writing a review would also count as an exploration step 🙂
I had Scounkles once. The doctor gave me a shot and they cleared up though.
This is the first week in a month that I have been able to Ninja Tip, but sadly, I still can’t come up with much. I will need to crack out the LoW and see what springs to mind. I will have to settle for Tortoise tip this time…
Oh, and Jack the D is still out there, he taunts almost every one of my submissions. But without the darkness would the light still be as bright?
In regards to this week’s Explorables for myself these are two that score high on my list.
I think Pathfinder: ACG really came into is own with Skullckles and picked up quite a bit of flavor and variety in the new campaign and I’m excited to see where Wrath of the Righteous goes this spring and the hints of mythic challenges.
As for Scoundrels of Skullport I only recently braved the Euro scented waters of the worker placement mechanic starting with Lords of Waterdeep over the holiday. Much like my intro to Deckbuilding with Thunderstone a few years back I shot to the FLGS on the first available day to excitedly grab up expansions and other examples. Waterdeep was a good time, but I could see how it could get samey. Skullport really opened it up to much more tableplay with all the new cards and options.
Hmm…this was a bit of a Skull centric update with a side of Scounkles
@X-hawk Don’t forget to play the meta game as The Chosen and explain why these are on your Sacred Shelf 🙂
@BitBot Hahaha I would never Ninja Tip. All Ninja Tips are still courtesy of @Stratagon’s Ninja Tip Emporium. I just haven’t had a good snubbing from Jack the Downgrader in awhile and wanted to make sure he was still out there in the Dark Interwebs
Yey, then it was my turn:) Thanks Account Deletion!
@Hai
I see someone has taken a page from Stratagon’s book. Well played!
If anyone else could add a review to Skull and Shackles that would be much appreciated. Would be less of an issue if they’d let me rate my own review 😛
I’ll see if I can finish my review of it 🙂
Having finished all but one adventure pack of it one can assume I enjoy it.
Quick note about this week’s explorables:
Skull & Shackles will need a little help in order to be completed, but it’s pretty popular so I’m not that worried. If, however, it still doesn’t have the necessary reviews to be completed by Thursday or Friday I can add a user review to help out. I doubt it will be needed, though.
