Players take turns placing magical stones into an arena in strategic formations hoping to bring forth the life essence of magical or even legendary Beings. These Beings will flicker into existence for a brief moment and in that moment, exert a special power on the other stones – most likely destroying them. With two modes of play: High Form and Deathmatch Duel, players will seek to gain the most points and emerge victorious…
This definitely looks different than a lot of games that come out these days.
This game is on my *intrigue radar*
Hey Andrew L
Thanks, I might check it out then. Right now I have Legendary, Sentinels of the Multiverse and Android: Netrunner coming. My group does ok with most games but I really think we need to mix some cooperative games in the mix as well because some people get burned out when they lose too often. I think this game might come after these although I have been looking at Quarriors! as well.
Hey Mr11
Yes I would say its a good addition to your lunch. And it is nothing at all in any way like Mage Knight.
If the playing time is accurate then this might be a good addition for my lunch crew. Is Mage Knight similar to this game? I have never played it before.
30 minutes is when everyone knows the game well. Tash Kalar has a rather long mastering curve so it will take a few games before you finish a game in half an hour (unless someone makes a few huge mistakes of course).
An unusual Vlaada game that I had some doubts about before playing, but I ended up picking up after playing it.
Vlaada Chvátil is one of the most innovative game designers working today. I will definitely be checking out this game.
BTW I really like the 30 minute playing time… after spending 46 hours learning to play Mage Knight (which is easier to learn now with all the video walkthroughs available… but a simpler Chvátil is appealing to me right now).
🙂
This one has been flying off my shelves pretty regularly.
Awesome review. This somehow piqued my interest in the game while at the same time making me want to wait a while before picking it up. I think there’s a good chance I’ll get into it… but there’s a lot of safer bets out there that I’ll get to first (including Chvatil’s Mage Knight).
