Below is a selection of games that stood out to us while browsing kickstarter.com.
Backing a project can be a great thing, but please do the research on a game before you put money into it. Happy exploring!

I backed Omen Deluxe Edition with the Hemloch also.
@Granny Thanks for the info. Hmmm…now it becomes a decision of ‘how Euro’ for me. Although the expansion adds the variable powers which always brings a bit of zest to a Euro for me. Thing about Game Salutes is that they seem better to grab off of Kickstarter before they increase the price and sell the extras for additionals in their store. Decisions, decisions.
@Account I can give you a quick low down on Hero Brigade. 2-player. Deck Builder. Each player either grabs the Hero or Villain deck to start. You build a running squad of 5 characters in front of you that you ‘battle’ with. There’s a resource deck that spits our 4 cards a round to nab and add to your decks (but you don’t buy them like standard deck building.) Each card has 3 abilities – Front (abilities used when played as perm in your front table line) – Support (abilities used from the back table line) – Play (abilities used when you just play a card from your hand and discard it). You build up your table squad and then smack your opponent around with them each turn.
The interesting mechanic is The Dead Pool. When a hero from your squad is defeated – they head to the discard pile but also cause a certain amount of cards from your deck to be banished to The Dead Pool. Also recycling your discards into a new deck causes banishment. So as the game progresses your deck becomes smaller and smaller as cards are banished. Run out of cards – end game.
It’s a good ‘Sunday’ game as I call them. A fun game for two that The Boy and I like to do on Sunday afternoons/evenings. The art is comic book solid. It plays fast enough. There’s a fun tension as your deck slowly whittles down. It doesn’t knock any socks off – but it is a good, solid, decent bit of fun. Definitely tugs at the socks and might get one off. The Boy agrees with you – the designer is a nice guy and ran a good first campaign and that’s why he is back for the expansion.
My carry-overs are Omen: A Reign of War/Hemloch, Dumpster Brawl and King’s Forge.
I have 3 new backings:
Keyflower: The Merchants: I’m in for the base game and both expansions. I’ve heard so much good about the game that I think it’s a sure thing.
Sunrise City: Nights!: I’m backing this at the base and expansion level based strictly on what I can see of the look of the game and the Clever Mojo name. I’ve never heard of the game before, and I’ll need to look into it before the campaign ends.
Hero Brigade: Hero Harder: another one I know little about, but I’m backing it at the base and expansion level. I will check this out deeper before the end, but I’ll stay in regardless to support the creator. We’ve backed several of the same campaigns, and he’s always been quite helpful and supportive of other small companies. I hope the game’s good, but mostly he’s the kind of creator I like backing.
Had nothing on my list, till the mention of Omen.
For those interested in King’s Forge, I’d describe it as similar to Splendor, but slightly more thematic and luck based. It’s a set collection race game. You roll your dice and can buy more dice, purchase cards that modify rolls, or forge a gift off the King’s list of items he desires. The first player to forge the requisite number of gifts wins.
I enjoy the game, and I’m looking forward to the expansion. However, there is not a lot of player interaction other than an ability to forge an item you can see someone else is going for. It’s a Euro at heart, with some luck thrown in. If that is what you are looking for…get it!
If you want interaction, Operation Fauste and Desert Island both look fantastic.
I would very much like King`s forge. And there were plenty of other titles to check out here.
I am still awaiting another game I backed on Kickstarter, due in the mail any day now. Maybe I will back a new project soon! 😀
Created Dumpster Brawl specifically to make something parents and kids could play together. Kids stay engaged and parents do not want to roll their eyes. It scales for age and I worked on it for almost a year with my new step-daughters in an effort to bond and viola we made a game – now they are waiting to see of the hard work launches a real game.
King’s Forge was a game I backed because it looked neat, and with the time-sink of GenCon + Kickstarter Harvest (all the late games showed up between late August and October, along with all of the on-time games), it has not yet made it to the table. I kind of want to back the expansion, but I really would like to play the game first. 😀
@Granny,
Thanks! I was debating going in for Hemloch as well, looks like I will be!
What’s Kickin’ around The Kick this week:
Dragon Tides enters the Final 12. Lots of unlocks and a decent catch all (most) pledge. A good catch combining the TACdice engine of Sentinel Tactics with some Chop Socky action movie fun. People screaming in the comments high on the plastic fumes of a miniatures campaign. *sigh* Aside from the nifty looking Crow and Kill Bill aspects I’m backing this one in the name of The Boy as he wants it, but I get the nifty cross-pledging freebies from FairyTale Games and Yashima.
Space Movers: Back again and still looking very pretty and good quality. I’m really surprised it is just sort of squeaking along. 🙁
In on Omen and oddball Aeronauts:The Twicining for some future Sunday afternoon fun.
The Boy is backing Epic Death:Hardcore and Hero Brigade:Hero Harder as expansions for two of his past backings.
Keeping the Hai Eye on: Raid and Trade and King’s Forge (also curious like @Artem) and Paranoia which I was excited to see crop up as I have fond memories of dark humor and cheap clone currency from high school. 🙂
Backing Dumpster Brawl for The Nieces as it looks bright and cartoony and good clean dumpster diving fun for the family. 😉 There’s a lot of flash and zazz in the Cardboard Kickdom, but sometimes there’s merit too. (The Era chap completely got me. I was on the fence and then watched his video. He was just so sincere, happy, and excited about his game. *shakes fist weakly*))It always makes me happy to stumble across a campaign on Kickstarter that shows a lot of effort and heart and this is one of them. I was chatting with the designer and he was telling me he worked on the game with his stepdaughters as a bonding activity. (*melt*) He also has opened pledge copies to donate to military families. (*respect*) I developed an instant soft spot for this campaign and think it is worth a look. 🙂
I’m thinking of backing King’s Forge – missed the initial KS and it seems like a load of fun. Pricey though. Anyone had experience with the game?

Check out Hemloch as well. It is included in one of the pledges. Great games!
So glad I checked and rechecked this news update. A chance to finally get Omen: A Reign of War!! That’s too good to miss!!!
