Happy (late) Valentine’s day! This weekend we’ll be continuing down the path of the light and dark side with Star Wars: The Card Game, and then going on adventures and quests with D&D: Lords of Waterdeep.
Did anyone play games for Valentine’s day with a special someone? And as always… What are you playing this weekend?
I played a few games of Kahuna with my sister. A nice strategy game (you have to control islands to win). Not on this site yet, hopefully it will be in the future!
My wife and I are addicted to Takenoko, so we played it 4 times yesterday.
Today I only played solo (digital Forbidden Island and Friday)
Played two games of Heroscape with my son. Playtesting armies for a tournament next week!
We also ended up playing a game of Space Hulk: Third Edition as well. Lots of moving minis around this week-end!
Hoping to get in first plays of both Revolution and Infiltration on Monday.
Local charity convention today. Played Police Precinct, 2 games of Avalon, Kingsburg and learned Saboteur and Elfenland
Played some D Day Dice but still struggling on Omaha Beach. Such a tricky game but I’m determined to get to that bunker. Playing without any of the extra rules you can use to make it easier, as I do like a challenge.
Playing Axis & Allies Global 1940 Second Edition, and getting my butt handed to me on a plate! 😛
My brother and his wife (non-gamers) are coming to dinner tonight. The plan is to entice them in to the gaming group with a few simple games first then maybe next time stepping it up a notch. Tonight’s line up:
No Thanks
For Sale
Zooloretto
and finish with a new purchase
River Dragons!
I plan on playing about 10 hours of boardgames Saturday, and another 5 on Sunday. Bought Atlantis Rising, it was pretty good.
I have a relative in town for the weekend, so we plan to cram in as much gaming as possible. I hope to play the advanced game of Flash Point, a couple games of Smash Up, Star Trek Catan, Castle Panic with The Wizard’s Tower expansion, Garden Dice, Portobello Market, and Kill Doctor Lucky if I’m lucky.
@unclebusu
For the casual game side, I second Granny’s recommendations of Smash-Up and Forbidden Island. I’d also like to suggest Sentinels of the Multiverse, Castle Panic, Kill Doctor Lucky, and Escape: The Curse of the Temple.
For a little more depth and/or strategy: Kingsburg, Space Alert, and Flash Point: Fire Rescue are good options.
If you’re into games with a little more pirate/sci-fi/horror theme, you should check out Pirate’s Cove, Invasion From Outer Space, A Touch of Evil, or Last Night on Earth.
Already played Penny Arcade (iOS version). Will play Rune Age, 3012 nd DC Comics Deck Building games.
Earth Reborn and Tannhauser this weekend. Dusting off a couple of classics.
Just finished a game of Formula De over Vassal with the BGG Voice Gamers Guild.
I think we’re going to break out some Heroscape since we haven’t played it in ages! However with Wrath of Ashardalon added today, I’m going to have to crack that guy open again so I can write a review 🙂
I know this is probably blasphemy, but I’m just mostly playing iPad digital versions this weekend. Family is starting bowling (daughter is starting youth league tomorrow), and I’m needing a break from the game group while I decide if I want to keep this a weekly thing. I might just break it up with some Friday Night Magic once in a while, as the group thing is kind of wearing on me weekly. Too bad the local Magic store isn’t a place I will ever step into again, I get all my stuff from a comic shop 45 minutes or so away, which makes it tough to get to in time for Friday games (kid and school, wife with work, etc.).
So for now, iPad it is. Although, I just got my trade for Defenders of the Realm, and I have it all set up and ready to play Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. That’ll probably be it though, for physical games.
Otherwise, I’m looking forward to learning “For the Win” and “Dominant Species” on the iPad. Just got done playing a few rounds of Ghost Stories and Forbidden Island, and enjoyed them as well. Even kind of enjoyed Fluxx with the daughter while we waited for our bowling balls to get holes drilled tonight.
Torn Asunder Pre-Release on saturday.
This weekend, I’m probably going to open up the Star Wars card game and play it with my oldest son. He’s trying to get me to play Lord of the Rings LCG as well… so maybe a lot of cards.
I’ll try and get some games of Kingdom Builder in with the family, and maybe Tzolkin with my gamer group. I just got Kings of Air and Steam too!
@unclebusu Based on your collection, it looks like you lean more towards casual games (correctly chosen gamer type), with an occasional strategy game mixed in.
On the casual side:
Pandemic or Forbidden Island are both excellent cooperative games. you could use one of these.
King of Tokyo and Smash-Up are a couple of great casual games I don’t see in your collection.
For strategic games:
Lords of Waterdeep or Stone Age are nice worker placement games. Currently, I’m enjoying Kingdom Builder which was designed by the creator of Dominion (which I recommend if you haven’t played a lot of deck building games yet – I’m burnt out, but loved them for a couple years).
Also… I’m going to highly recommend Samurai Sword. It’s a casual game based on the Bang! mechanics, but easier to learn and play right away. I think you’ll love it… and it’s BRAND NEW.

Hopefully son Munchkin. For sure some Forbidden Island and DiXit. SmallWorld if the planets align.
My birthday is next Friday so I’m thinking about hitting up my game store and picking up something totally new. Any suggestions?
