Sometimes it can be slow as monsters build up energy reserves and jockey for a more powerful starting position. In order to help this phase of the game along my group starts each monster with 7 energy. Then two cards are dealt to each player. They can use their energy to buy one card and keep the left over energy, or they can elect to save all of their energy for to use later. They cannot buy both cards. Then all of the cards not purchased are discarded and the game begins as usual.
