Merchants & Marauders
This game really transports you to another place when you play it. I’ve lost more times than won, but I always have a ton of fun. I like setting up my own victory conditions, e.g. if I capture a man-o-war I’ve won (in my mind, at least). The learning curve is a little steep, but it’s really intuitive overall, and good player aids can make it much easier to explain.
