@Capt_Ron Absolutely! I love winter themed war games. I put on my 1940s Bing Crosby Christmas record, and go to town! Wish more people played/carried Mem’ 44 stuff.

The Munchkin had great jokes about the Christmas period on these cards, and in my opinion surpasses even some of their base games.

@Stargazer1 Yes! I have been learning about a lot of games and types of games I didn’t know about. I think posting games on the web site has also been a positive for me (and my husband) because I have been playing a lot more games as a consequence. My husband is in the game industry and he’s enjoyed playing more games as well, and I am also lucky to have him as a resource. Plus, where he works has a large game library and I can try a lot of games before buying them, I think my biggest surprise is just the volume of games that have been coming out lately and the variety of themes. I was also surprised at the number of games that are released with an option of solo play. I also like the creative way some games us an app to add to the game play. My latest ‘surprise’ is the category of legacy games and I am looking forward to experiencing Pandemic Legacy which I received as a gift this christmas.

@Tiana: I imagine posting the games has given you a wealth of game knowledge. You are probably checking out games that you might otherwise wouldn’t be remotely interested in. Find any surprises? Glad to help!

My favorite winter games are Tide of Iron: The Fury of the Bear and Memoir 44:Winter Wars. What’s wrong? Wargames can be winterized too!

@Tiana: It’s good that I enlightened you a bit. Your attempt at promoting discussion was successful! Seems like you have some exploring to do regarding a future game perhaps? 🙂

@Stargazer1 That is too funny! I had Kutuzov all ready to go, and didn’t realize it would fit into the category.

What a neat list; I didn’t know any of these other than Thin Ice. My favorite winter themed game is Carcassonne: Winter Edition.

My favorite winter themed game is Kutuzov. It’s about Napoleon’s Grand Army invading Russia in 1812. The game does a great job of simulating the devastation wrought by the harsh Russian winter on the Grand Army.

I thought it would be fun this week to post some holiday and winter themed games. Have fun exploring them and maybe you will discover a new holiday tradition. Does anyone out there have a holiday or winter themed game they love? If so, share it with us here.
