Power Grid
This game if you haven’t heard by now is about you being the head of a Railroad er…I mean a Power Company. You have to lay track, darn it! I mean, create a power grid to service homes and make money so that you may upgrade your train…there I go again! I mean POWER PLANT – so that you can service more stops…errr umm homes…
I make fun but not because this is a bad game. It is just the opposite. However Puffing Billies note…this is a game for you.
There is auctioning of the power plants which does well to break up what would be a tedious number crunching rail game in disguise. The power plants not only have a capacity of homes they can service, but also have a mixture of fuels needed (coal, oil, uranium) including fusion and wind.
What sets this apart from a rail game and gives it a power plant game-ish feel is that fuel plays a huge role in the game. The costs of fuel is based on a supply/demand mechanic that is done really well.
Stocks are not part of the game. You own your own Power Company and victory is determined by how large that company becomes at the end of the game.
I highly recommend this game. I only wish that the colors used on the board had better contrast, otherwise this is an excellent game with many good expansions.
