This is the way Catan was meant to be played. The addition of commodities and upgrades to your cities is, in my opinion, the best part of this expansion. The added threat of the barbarian attacks helps to give the expansion an epic feel as you battle to establish control of the island. Players have to balance expansion with defense to make sure they aren’t the victims of an unfortunate barbarian raid.

The extra even die and progress cards are also very fun additions to the game and make it my favorite way to play Settlers.

This has to be one of my favorite strategy games of all-time. It’s easy to learn and is different every time you play. This is the game that got me started on strategy board gaming and anyone who plays it is in danger of being hooked for life. 🙂

I would highly recommend playing with at least 3 players, however, because every game I’ve played with only 2 is *very* lopsided. There is another game Rivals of Catan (not to be confused with Struggle For Catan) which is much better suited for 2 players. My wife and I play that when we want a Catan fix without anyone else to play with. It’s balanced well for 2 people and is a different approach to the Catan strategy which I find both fun and challenging.

7 Wonders is the kind of game you can play repeatedly and have a different experience and strategy each time you play. The different wonders you build and the hand you’re dealt will drastically change your approach to the game. I would highly recommend getting the Leaders expansion since it adds an entirely new (and intended in my opinion) element to the game.

All in all, my family loves it and it’s great to get a large group of people in on a game. 7-player games are a blast!
