Cosmic Encounter
While I would not call Cosmic Encounter a difficult game to learn, the game and its multiple phases can be overwhelming enough for players without the addition of flares, tech cards and other expansions. Keep it simple with a basic game without some of the (admittedly fun) clutter and chaos!
