Blokus
A game with glossy plastic pieces (that shine like mini-jolly ranchers) shaped in abstract configurations; players move across the board trying to use all of their pieces, while blocking other players. The boxing in & cornering gets ruthless fast, in one game my 6-year old brother knocked a player out in on his first move.
With super simple rules, quick setup, and rather fast games, this makes for family and new gamer fun with enough light strategy to entertain regular gamers.
