A very old (60+ years) store on the west end of Los Angeles, Aero Hobbies & Games prides itself on being the birthplace of the Thief class of characters in Dungeons & Dragons. They keep their calendar relatively clear (usually one scheduled event a day) to maximize time for impromptu customer gaming.
They also place an emphasis on miniatures painting, hosting a weekly class and offering professional services should you need them.
This is what I like about all LGS that I’ve visited. More often than not, they have some rare or odd policy that people ask about or find interesting. “No miniatures painting in the store” is a great example. I’ve been in stores where that policy would hurt sales.
But my favorite store policy of all time was back in the 90’s when RPGs were still on top of the gaming industry: “Do not discuss your character with the staff.” 🙂
This place is responsible for shoving me into miniatures. I plan on taking classes here once my early shipment of original Dreadball teams arrives from the Xtreme Kickstarter campaign. I’m not sure what I’ve gotten myself into.
