Hive is a board game with a difference. There is no board! The pieces are added to the playing area thus creating the board. As more and more pieces are added the game becomes a fight to see who can be the first to capture the opposing Queen Bee.
The soldier ants battle to keep control of the outside of the hive, whilst the Beetles climb up to dominate the top. Spiders moving into holding positions as the Grass Hoppers jump in for the kill. Keeping one eye on the hive and the other on your opponents reserves, the tension builds as one wrong move will see your Queen Bee quickly engulfed; .... game over!

This is one of the games we bring to the table most. It’s starting to get difficult to get it out now, as I’ve beaten my wife a little too much (at the game!).
Very well thought out interaction between the different pieces. Be prepared to use your head, but games don’t usually last longer than 30 minutes.
The pricepoint is great too. I here hive pocket is cheaper, includes the expansion pieces, and creates the opportunity for even more gaming while on the go.
Don’t pass this one up. The theme/design threw me off it for a while, but once I gave it a shot, I never looked back.
I sometimes think this is the best 2-Player game out there. Not because I love it most, but because it never gets stale. It is a very solid game that stands the test of time. I imagine it getting played 50 years from now.
And for that reason I like it since it is an entry game.
Honestly one of my favorite games of all time.
Due to its “chess” like nature, the replay value is excellent, and actually… the modular element makes it much more intriguing.
The components are excellent, they feel good in your hand and are interesting enough to get people to look at it.
The skill curve can be pretty big, i typically stomp new players at least 10 games in a row. So its easy to learn, hard to master.
Hive is a cool 2 player game, it features tokens that have different movement and plays like chess without the board. Highly recommended.
