Did You Know That...
- Tapple is originally based on the German game Pim Pam Pet
- The Tapple Wheel has 20 Letters. The six missing letters are: Q,U,V,X,Y,Z. These letters are the least commonly used letters to start a word in the English language.
- Once the buzzer is hit, each player only has TEN seconds to name something in his/her category.
How to Win at Tapple
Here are a few tips on how to become a better Tapple player
- Remain Calm - A calm mind is a mind that can think under pressure. Practice meditative breathing before the game begins... or just relax to some sweet jams.
- As soon as the Category card is selected start making a list of words that fit that category in your head. Go into the round with a plan and feeling confident.
- While your opponents are going - start thinking of more words. Try to think of at least two in case they take your letter.
- In contrast, press the timer as quickly as possible after you answer so your opponents have less time to think during your turn.
- Move your feet while you're playing. Movement helps brain flow.
- Start breaking down things into categories in your every day life to work your category muscle. What colors do you know? What can you find in nature? Who are your favorite actors?
- Have lots of fun.
How to Use Tapple as an Educational Tool
Reading & Writing: Turn off the timer! For kids who are still learning to read and write, pick a category, and give them time to think of a word that starts with a letter in each category. Have them go around the whole wheel and think of a word for each letter.
Spelling: Try to spell a word in 10 seconds! Pick a word and have your student or child try to spell it within the 10 second time frame. If spelling is still new, turn off the timer and have them press down the buttons as they spell for more interactive fun.
Quick Thinking: Try to think of two words in a category that start with the SAME letter every time you push a letter down.
Teamwork: Play Tapple in teams. Separate your group into two teams. When one player from a team wins a round, the whole team gets the point. Give everyone a chance to work together and promote good teamwork & sportsmanship.
And of course, you can always play Tapple classic style since it's already fast word fun for everyone :)
How To Use Tapple as a Party Game
Use Tapple as an icebreaker - have all players pick an adjective, using the available letters on the Tapple Wheel, that describes them. This can be done with our without the timer.
Give Prizes - Every time someone wins a round he/she gets a prize (For Kids: stuffed animal, fun munchable treat, etc; for adults Mardi Gras beads, party hats, etc)
Give Party Time Consequences - Every time someone gets out in a round he/she has to do something 'bad' (For Kids: do a silly dance, tell a Joke; For Adults: take a drink, run a lap, etc)
Special Events - If it's someone's birthday, wedding, baby shower, etc have everyone in the room use the Tapple Wheel to describe all the great things about the person using all the letters of the wheel.
Party on Tapplers!
