Played Ingenious and Small World last night as predicted, but didn’t get to Settlers of Catan. As a result the Lady, despite my best attempts for over 6 months to turn her into a full-fledged board game nerd, still hasn’t played Settlers.
I absolutely love how easy Small World is to teach to novice players. It takes about three or four rounds for a player who has never looked outside of the mainstream board game world of Monopoly and Risk to grasp the rules and really get into it. Out of four players last night, I came in third and one of the newbies barely lost to the Lady by a SINGLE point — she ended at 99 coins (to my 68).
Luchador! Mexican Wrestling Dice and the Tools of Hero Kind expansion for Boss Monster just showed up so they’ve been seeing a lot of table time this weekend. I’ve just received Krosmaster Arena too so I think we’ll be working through the tutorials on that too. Might try and fit a game of Settlers and LotR LCG in too as I fancy breaking them out for the first time in a few weeks.
It’s been a slow week as far as gaming goes, but today I picked up Legendary pretty cheaply at the local comic convention and got in a couple of solo plays. Seems pretty sweet for a long-time comic fan like me, though it might be a bit on the easy side. Time will tell. I can already tell I’m going to have expansion fever with it, though. Plus, it’ll be another game I can bring out in a couple of years when my son gets old enough to have a grasp of what’s going on.
Otherwise, I’ll try to squeeze in a game or two of Agricola with the wife and consider it a good weekend, especially compared to the lack of gaming in the last few weekends.
We had another game cataloging night with Spielbound and afterward played Werewolfe: One Night several times and The Speicherstadt (an elegant Stefan Feld game) twice. Both are great and neither are currently listed here.
Launching our Kickstarter campaign TODAY here and attending a few game parties elsewhere to spread the word. 🙂
Tonight, we play Takenoko with friends and hopefully we can also squeeze in something else all will enjoy. Maybe SotM. Tomorrow, who knows? Agents of S.M.E.R.S.H. is on the agenda soon, as are Savage Worlds and Zombicide.
The Boy and I have two small two person dry run games of Myth down (One word: Saucesome!) so tonight we tote it over to the Game Night hosted at our friends’s place for a 4 player game.
We are going to try to do a small arc of chain quests. It might be a bit clunky first time out (this game has A LOT!) but it is intuitive and the ball gets rolling quickly enough. You really have to mindful of co-oping so this should be interesting…
Played my first game of Betrayal at House on the Hill last night and had a great time. My son and I are also testing out the new Imperial Aces for X-Wing Miniatures Game.
I don’t know if I’ll get to play anything, but I’m at least planning on setting some stuff up if only to see it set up in person.
The plan is to play with my Zombicide, Rivet Wars, Dwarven Forge Game Tiles, and Reaper Bones kickstarter stuff since that’s my only game stuff not in storage at the moment.
Just punching and sorting MYTH , reading the hefty tome of MYTH rule book, running through some mechanics of MYTH and generally walking around with trembling hands and the blush of the first kiss of new game smell on my cheek *glee*
SATURDAY
The Archer is ready to go – please hold all my calls
I just introduced Settlers of Catan to my son and his friend. I was never so happy to lose to the birthday boy (my son’s friend) who was gifted the game. He’s so hooked. Aaaaah…I love converting people to board games…and BSG reruns. Will probably play some digital Carcassone and Ticket to Ride, and keep working through the middle scenarios of Pathfinders Adventure pack 2.
Taking DC: Heroes Unite for a few more spins. With the SDE kickstater in full effect, I finally caved and picked up the base game. Might spend a few hours non-gaming and build the set.
@HaiKulture Well, I should have no trouble getting Pathfinder games in. Too bad you don’t live near our house. 🙂
I’m excited to hear your opinion on Myth. Alas, I will not be playing for a few days. Oregon was one of the last states… not sure how that works… it was not an alphabetical decision.

A quick ones! Zombie Dice, Hey, that’s my fish & Bigfoot!
Really cool, fast, fun family games! 🙂

@Wade C Pick up Legendary: Dark City and you’ll be praying for easy Masterminds again 😉

Sentinels of Multiverse, Manhattan Project and X Wing Miniatures.
It looks like a deckbuilding weekend:
Paperback – I am bringing this to a family gathering. We have several scrabble loving folks who will be there that we expect will really like this.
Dominion and Eminent Domain will also be played.
Going to get in some Magic, the Gathering on Saturday; we’ll see what else develops.

Angry face.
City of Iron and Merchant of Venus are both getting played this weekend.
