What are you playing this weekend? (June 7)

Posted by Jim {Power Gamer} | 7-Jun-13 | 35 comments

This weekend we’re camping with the family, so we’ll have to bring games that won’t blow away in the wind and don’t take up much table space. Hive and a set of dominos sound like good options.

A couple questions this week… Do you have a favorite game to bring on a camping trip or when you travel? And as always, what are you playing this weekend?

It really was a very unusual way to kill many zombies … and also the game.

My Walking Dead event at Origins was canceled due to a fire alarm. Now I’ll never know which version of the game I would have played.

Introduced Mage Knight to the Wednesday group. Opinions were mixed, with the most negative coming from the player who has expressed similar feelings about Vlaada C. games in the past. (We didn’t even tell her who designed it beforehand, but she still came to the same conclusions on this as the others.)

My second Father’s Day this weekend, and no gaming. I’m happy and sad at the same time.

The main difference between the Cryptozoic Walking Dead is that it uses the images of the characters from the first season of the TV series, while the Z-man uses the images of comics.

Games with the same titles but different systematics and especially different images.

Going to Origins tomorrow and through the weekend. Current itinerary includes full games of The Walking Dead (not sure if Cryptozoic or Z-man), Quarriors and 7 Wonders. Hope to get to try many demos as well, but will have to wait until Thursday for the exhibit hall to open.

I played an epic round of Cards Against Humanity; I hope I can log it in the not-too-distant future. ::hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge::

So far the deepest response I’ve gotten to a round was “Object-Permanence is a slippery slope that leads to Take-Backsies.” I’m curious what awesome responses other people have gotten!

Monday night game night: 2 sessions of Android: Netrunner and a 5-player of Sentinels. It came down to the wire but Miss Information was crushed in Silver Gulch. Omnitron-X, Chrono-Ranger and finally Argent Adept hit her the most. Fanatic did some damage but never got her killing blow in. Visionary was a mere spectator in this one but helped the rest of us draw cards to get our engines going.

Two solo games of Lord of the Rings the Card Game. Four games of Memoir ’44, two of which were an Overlord scenario with 8 players each.

The weekend was full of games.

We played Magic: the Gathering in the following categories: double, Archenemy, Planechase and Vanguard. It was really good games.

Then we had a mini-tournament Uno for a change ^^.

Deadwood 2 times we played with the delivery of victory by one of my friends, which I thought was a tremendous kidding.

And then play the critically acclaimed Gears of War with the Mission Pack 1 expansion. We did the first mission of the game: “Emergence”. Unfortunately, we lost to the Locust Horde … ¬¬ by little and with some amazing hits by soldiers Locusts … for very little we did not win. But this experience served as a defeat for the board and even then I played with the staff is eager to repeat the dose of Gears of War. Great game!

So my gaming group had to cancel because a lot of us were feeling sick (there is a bug going around right now) so my girlfriend and I stayed home in this fantastic thunderstorm that lasted all day and played some games. We played Rune Age, Call of Cthulhu the LCG, and Magic.
