What are you playing this weekend? (July 27)

Posted by Jim {Power Gamer} | 26-Jul-12 | 30 comments

We’ve been hard at work adding new pages and explorer quests related to adventures soon to come at Gen Con! Though I’ll continue to be busy preparing for that, others will definitely be playing games in preparation for official reviews. Games like Libertalia, Atlantis Rising, Cthulhu Fluxx and Legend of the Five Rings CCG’s new set The Shadow’s Embrace.

What games are you playing this weekend? And for those who want to share a bit more, what’s your favorite snack to accompany your gaming? Our current favorite is Cheddar Jalapeno Cheetos with Barq’s rootbeer.

That was one packed weekend. I spent it with 6 other guys in a cabin. Something I do once every year. The question is not so much what we played as what we didn’t play.

Arkham Horror, Lords of Waterdeep, Shadowhunters, Monty Python Fluxx, Coloretto, Portobello Market, Puerto Rico, Cargo Noir and Spank the Monkey were all featured along with some games that I can’t remember at the moment.

We ended up playing Ticket to Ride: USA, while on the Amtrak heading back from Seattle, WA to Chicago, IL. It was very funny, because we were actually diverted through WI to a different track, due to construction. We kept talking about how someone stole our route, as in the game.

Got a number of new people to learn about the game while we were on the train. New geeks in the fold!!!

I had a terrifying weekend… almost didn’t play ANY games, but was saved by some friends at the last minute:

Last Will
Cyrano
Mord Im Arosa
Paris Connection

…an interesting menagerie. Granny exhales… that was close.

Was at the beach on vacation, but still had time to play a game of Black Sheep (Reiner Knizia family game) Saturday night. Bought “Once Upon a Time” Sunday at a shop on the drive home, but haven’t played it yet (read rules and looked cards over, looks great though). Black Sheep was a lot of fun! I think it would be better if everyone played their cards to a field face down though, to add more strategy and bluffing

My weekend gaming started on Thursday with two games of Pastiche. Friday I had a playtest of D&D Next (I am reserving judgement at present), and Saturday I had another session of the Star Wars game that I’m in. Beyond that, I’ve played several games of Race for the Galaxy against Keldon’s AI. That’s fun, but not as much as playing against other people.

I’m currently hoping that I can get in some sort of gaming this evening, but I don’t know how feasible that will be.

This weekend involved a wedding and resulted in near enough no gaming, though I did help my daughter teach the other junior bridesmaid to play Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule. I just had to settle for a few games of Neuroshima Hex on Android (at which I still suck). However, we have now added Oregon, Heckmeck am Bratwurmeck (aka Pickomino) and Lords of Waterdeep to the games cupboard, so we’re looking forward to trying them all out in the near future.

Snack-wise, when playing with my daughter we try to avoid snacks as she is still young enough to make more things sticky than you would have thought possible. With grown-ups, though, I’d favour pork scratchings or possibly olives (aongside beer!).

Whoot! I scored a pristine copy of Space Hulk at a garage sale yesterday — add that to my list for the weekend if I can pry my son away from watching the Olympics.

Quite a few games of Infiltration (Android universe) last night with my missus and family. I love that game at the moment. I’m also re-writing my Heroica rule set and some new rules for the lego harry potter board game.

Gloom, Small World, and maybe some Dominion. My wife is getting too good at those games and keeps beating me. Maybe it’s time to find something else.

I already started out with some Memoir ’44. Hopefully, I’ll get to some Word on the Street, Ticket to Ride, 7 Wonders, and Sid Meier’s Civilization.

Snacks? Hm… So far don’t eat snacks while gaming.

Well starting with last night Lords of Waterdeep made an appearance and will probably hit the table again today. Lexio has also been a surprising hit lately, even if it is an “older” game. I imagine I will play LOW today and hopefully Ora & Labora, Ascension and from there who knows?

Got to get my Magic the Gathering cards in order, and I may break out Mage Knight, whether or not I can coax someone over after the kids go to bed.

Playing some games will be on the menu with my daughter as well. I will have the olympics on in the background one way or the other.

I’ll be playing some iOS games (still struggling with Summoner Wars) and some Ten Days in Europe with my wife (we finally finished buying the whole set of Ten Days in XXX games). If I’m lucky, maybe I’ll get to Uncharted.

Snack-wise it’s salty tortilla chips with Costco’s Jalapeño and Avocado dip — truly not good for you but mmm mmm mmmmmmmmm.

This weekend I’ll be playing Puerto Rico, Backgammon, and Battle of the Bands. For eats, I’m making Shrimp Etoufee’ and homemade bread (I’m a Cajun) :).
Also awaiting for Game Table Online’s release of RPGTO, a virtual role playing table top game. Here’s the link to the info if anyone is interested: http://www.gametableonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=3684
Also awaiting FFG’s release of Android:Netrunner, should be a blast!

Happy Weekend Everybody! 😉

Hopefully I’ll have a big group getting together this weekend and we may be playing anything from Warmachine/Hordes to AD&D to 7 Wonders, who knows!

As far as favorite snacks go, I love to bake some cookies for game night, and these are my favorites right now: Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies. Or we do fresh veggies and cheese.

Mmmmm…. cheese….
