What are you playing this weekend? (Aug 8)

Posted by Jim {Power Gamer} | 7-Aug-14 | 30 comments

This weekend we’re going to be a bit preoccupied with the new addition to our family, but… we did find a really cool kids game that we’re going to surprise our 4 year old with to help introduce him to gaming. It’s not currently on our site, but it’s called Roll and Play. It introduces dice rolling, card drafting and acting things out.

Even with GenCon plans put on ice due to the evil machinations of the Frozen Head of Walt Disney the past two weeks (and the week to come) has(/will) been (/be)crazy with games arriving in the mail. We were going to try some new arrivals this weekend, but have decided to make next weekend KHAAAAAAAAANNNNNNCon and have the ‘Bester’ Two Days in Gaming (because there will be hot dogs and hamburgers, of course) and ‘demo’ new things with our gamer friends.

*toes crossed for Sentinel Tactics!!!!!!!!*

(Speaking of which – Sentinel Lovers with no new Kickstarter Hotsheet and since it is ‘beyond Kickstarer’ do not forget about the Wrath of the Cosmos Pre-order! http://sentinelsofthemultiverse.com/ )

So this weekend will just be summertime standards: Sentinels, Cosmic E, Thunderstone, and a new episode in the Last Night on Earth:Season One Campaign. Also the Pathfinder Six should be in force to take on another Pathfinder:ACG adventure.

We have a new gamer to add to our game circle so its up to them. I’m going to suggest a few games but I don’t know what kind of gaming she does.

Candidates for gaming this weekend include Castle Panic, Small World, Marvel Legendary, Star Trek TNG dbg, Clue (yeah, in case she sticks to mostly standard games), and maybe Arkham Horror. Zombie Dice, Tsuro or Gloom might also make the short list.

Looks like a rainy weekend with just the two of us, so we will likely be playing Splendor, Takenoko, Libertalia and one of my prototypes.

Last weekend I was dragged to Connecticut to visit The Lady’s family and didn’t get in a lot of games, but we did have an 8-player game of Bang! Dice and taught her little brother to play Guillotine, Small World, and Pandemic (gotta practice for the Pandemic Survival tournament at Gen Con next weekend!).

I played a few solitaire games of newly-arrived Run, Fight, or Die last week and will be twisting The Lady’s arm into playing it tonight after we attend the Pink Floyd Light Show at the Boston Museum of Science. It’s a really fun game to play solo, and promises even more fun with more people.

Tomorrow night The Lady has declared that we’re hosting a board gaming party for some of her Dragon Boat teammates, so I’ll be teaching them Dixit, 7 Wonders, and possibly The Resistance.

Hoping for some deeper nerd-themed games on Sunday, if I can get a few of my more nerd-minded friends over (CC @KassidyHelfant!) for a few hours. I’m dying to play some Alien Uprising, Zombie 15′, and/or Sentinels of the Multiverse.

I will be playing Memoir 44’s newest expansion, D-Day Landings, which is a set of six maps of the D-Day beaches and the American airborne landings in the area west of the landing beaches. These maps can be played alone, or in combinations of two, three, or a huge six map Operation Neptune twelve player game. I think I will be playing the american airborne map.

We’re with the in-laws this weekend, so probably lots of party games on the menu. We’ll play One Night, Coup, Avalon, Castle Panic, Star Realms, Dice Masters, and others. It won’t be heavy gaming, but we should get a lot in.

Not sure how much gaming I will get in this weekend. But if I can get a game or two in of Pandemic and/or Fortune & Glory.
