It’s a wonderful time of year! Not only is it a time where family and friends get together, but it’s also so cold outside that it’s a lot easier for us gamers to get them to sit around the table and play games!
I’ll never forget when Settlers of Catan first entered our home. My older brother brought it for the holidays, none of us were really gamers at that point. We played it almost every day, and sometimes multiple times a day! Each family had their own copy within a month after that!
This ‘Winter Break’ is a perfect time to spend with family, friends, loved ones, and our year long companion – games. We are, after all, a family here at Boardgaming.com, so let’s spend this time together in celebration of a new tradition: ‘The 12 Days of Gaming‘! In this extended “What are you playing this weekend?” let us know how you are celebrating The Twelve and what Sugar Plum Meeples are dancing on your table tops all holiday long.
Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, Pancha Ganapati, Yule, Newtonmas, Festivus, Decemberween, Hogswatch, The Feast of Alvis or the Winter Veil…we all sit at the table as one. Let’s unwrap our gifts together and share the new acquisitions that will grace our gaming shelves in the year to come.

The holidays consist of gaming, gaming, and more gaming. I love Christmas! A lot of time exploring new and different games with friends and family. This year we enjoyed Family business, Saboteur, Bonanza, and a whole bunch of card games like ticks, rummy, and ****************. I wish we have more holidays, I love being at home and not at work
Its a fun week of games for my husband and I this year. Starting out on the 25th, we spent it with friends and introduced them to Sushi Go. We took quite a few of our smaller games with us but one of our friends became quite enamoured with Sushi Go, so we played it the entire evening.
We’ll also be learning the new Commander decks for Magic. I realize they’ve been out for awhile now but we’ve been on a Magic hiatus for the past 4 years. We have plans to play this with friends on New Years eve.
When its just the two of us playing though, we’ll be enjoying Elder Sign. Its our newest addition and with the expansion it’ll be a new experience from what we’ve had at the local game shop.
This Christmas was a sad reminder that neither my family nor my wife’s family are much into board games. I introduced my family to Bohnanza, and they liked it fine, but it was too long and too “complicated” for them. My wife got me the Cities expansion for 7 Wonders and the Guilds expansion for Dominion, and I’m not sure when we’ll get to play those. Hopefully soon.
The really great part of this week, though, was introducing my nephews to Get Bit! and King of Tokyo. My nephew is quite the strategic gamer, and excels at figuring out games. We had a lot of fun.

My 4 year old has found great fun in Click Clack Lumberjack which he got for Christmas.
Finally got Terra Mystica to the table. Plus planning on other long games like Hand & Foot and such.
I have played Diamonds, Sun Tzu, Splendor and Machi Koro. I have gotten several more games and hope to play many of those as I am going to be a local game convention from Jan. 1- Jan. 4th.
I played Spledor twice against myself today. Does that count?
So far we’ve played Munchkin with a couple of the holiday expansions thrown in, Settlers of Catan, Boss Monster with the Tools of Hero Kind expansion (Christmas gift for my husband), and Munchkin Zombies, which we received as a gift from my mother. We taught her how to play and she won. 🙂 My husband gave me Eldritch Horror for Christmas, so we will definitely be playing that this weekend. We are also planning a trip to our favorite game cafe this weekend. It’s a very gaming Christmas for us.
It will be some gaming this Christmas.
So far it’s been A touch of evil, love letter, Pacg: skull & shackles (New heroes from the character add-on).
Last night my gaming group tried the new Star Wars dungeon crawl, Imperial Assault, which now have replaced Descent as my favorite game of that type (I’m no Star Wars fan at all, but it was just a better game).
For the rest of the holiday there will be more of the games I’ve already played, some kids game with my son and I’ll continue my campaign in Battlelore Command (I finally got through the first mission after the tutorial after some 12-14 fails).
Received a copy of Freedom: The Underground Railroad and enjoyed it immensely! Great co-op!
Also, played lots of Bang: The Dice Game and round of Marvel Dice Masters: Uncanny X-men and some Memoir ’44.
got my copy of EH Mountains of Madness so I will stick to that today.
I received my new Viticulure/Tuscany Collector’s Edition on Christmas Eve, so I’m hoping to get in a game or two this weekend. I think Lords of Xidit and Sherrif of Nottingham will make an appearance. Cash n Guns and Good Cop Bad Cop will get played again too. We’ve already played a few family games, Rollick, Nada, and Times Up! I’m sure a few more will come out before the end of the weekend. I’m on an Imperial Settlers kick…so will be looking to get that to the table as well. Holiday break is great, because my two boys are home all day playing games with me. They got a few new games for Christmas, so we may need to try all of those as well. Yay!
Just returning home from Family Game Day (also known as Christmas celebration…) I think I converted a few of them into One Night Ultimate Werewolf fans. I also taught them Concept and Ca$h and Gunz. They requested last year’s big hit, Telestrations, which saw some table time, and I managed to evade the suggestions of Apples to Apples. Overall a very successful game day (with some holiday stuff tacked on).
Saturday is my monthly gaming event. We did not vote in advance this time, so it is up in the air what will be played!
Played some Masters Gallery while the GF is still at work. She got Tokaido and I got Terra Mystica so those two will definitely be seeing some game time as we are off to the Coast tomorrow.

I got my kickstarter version of Fallen the day before Christmas. I have been learning how to play this game and organizing the cards for each character. I really like this game and it is well balanced for the hero vs the dungeon lord. I cannot wait to be able to play it without referring to the rule book. That will be soon.

picked up love leter , star realms, 7 wonders: leaders and race for the galaxy : the gathering storm so hope to try them this holiday.
