From our review…

Ancient Terrible Things leads you down a dank jungle river to a handful of Fateful Locations where Ominous Encounters will lead you to precious resources (or ruin) while time hurls you closer and closer to the Unspeakable Event. Sound bleak? Well don’t fret… you’ve got all you need in a handful of dice and a few thoughtfully purchased pieces of Swag. Now bring on the Yawning Chasm and the Accursed Shrine!…

Granny will never change her avatar badge, as there appears to never be any NEW granny options. Shenanigans!!!!

Jon,

If you were thinking about making badge/avatar ownership a quest, I’d put it under either be Gamer or Explorer (since getting your first avatar was Explorer.)

I’d probably do something like 5 / 10 / 20 / 50 / 100 for number to own. Badges would be non-system awarded to count I would think (so not ones you get for leveling up or reaching other quest milestones). There’s the bonus benefit of encouraging another place for people to spend their gold.

For badges, I could see a theme being ranks like in cub/boy scouts, since you accumulate badges there. Maybe an animal theme (I imagine badgers would be the top end).

Nothing overly witty is coming to mind for an avatar quest, likely because as soon as I start thinking about it I envision large blue people and opening Pandora’s box.

I see what you mean about using different avatars, but unless there was a time requirement for how long you have to use the new avatar, I could see them being switched through quickly (and it could get confusing if people start posting with different faces). Though I can now see an entire page of comments from people all using the same avatar (which I suppose isn’t all that far off from what used to happen when a lot of people used the guy with glasses and pencil before the colored avatars were created).

I see no reason why there couldn’t be badges for hoarding avatars and badges (it’s a fairly simple thing to program). Any suggestions on the requirements or artwork? Perhaps instead of just hoarding avatars we could give a badge for actually using different avatars (instead of just sticking with the same avatar forever).

… And with regard to the post, the kids and I DO really like Ancient Terrible Things. We started with a simplified set of rules where we ignore all the loot cards and the actions, 5 coins can buy one gold die and 3 coins can buy 1 red die (we change rules frequently).

Hai,

I’ve also been hoping to one day see an avatar hoarding quest! It also seems getting awarded a badge for collecting badges is a quest waiting to happen.

Bought the gals and Captain Creepy- just too nifty to pass up even though I will probably never go in for elective Avatar surgery.

Now if there was only a quest badge for hoarding unused Avatars…

I always enjoy seeing new avatars on the site and especially love the look of these! Unique but beautiful style.
