board and card games on kickstarter

Below is a selection of games that stood out to us while browsing kickstarter.com.

Backing a project can be a great thing, but please do the research on a game before you put money into it. Happy exploring!

Scoville looks hot, I hope it funds! Both my GF and I went in on that without talking to eachother, so hopefully two copies coming our way. 🙂
Lagoon looks really interested, so I did that one, and caught her just in time so we only get one of that one. I hadn’t seen Hero’s Wanted, I’ll need to look. Of course I’m super-excited that City of Iron met all the stretch goals. Love that game.

It has been a good month for KS. Last few months have been pretty dry, but now, it’s getting dangerous for my wallet! I like that!

2014 is lining up to be a a great year for kickstarter it seems to me. All last year there where only a few games that caught my interest, but after just over a month I’ve supported one game and it looks like I’ll be supporting 3 more! Draco Magi looks just awesome, Heroes Wanted and Mob City are sure to get my support as well. And oddball Aeronauts & Heroes of Metro City I need to look more into, but they both look like really good games from what I’ve seen so far.

@Jim
Looking forward to see the Draco Magi avatars. Think its time for me to updatemy current one:)

I’ve considered getting in on Heroes of Metro City, but a number of mixed reviews and my playgroups’ general aversion to deckbuilders will unfortunately make me pass on this.

EONS is about $4,000 short of their stretch goal for a larger game board. It’s a unique resource management game of creating stars and planets and expanding the universe, which has flown under the radar so far since its release last summer. Base game and the expansion are only $50 during this campaign!

I have far too many projects backed right now… which gets me excited, because these Kickstarter offerings are starting to get better and better after months of being overrun by card games.

I’ve been in on Tiny Epic Kingdoms, Tortuga, Scoville and Lagoon: Land of Druids since they launched, and this week has already added This Town Ain’t Big Enough… and Heroes Wanted. Also had to get behind Draco Magi once Boardgaming.com threw their weight behind it (card game aversion be darned).

Also supporting a few games that aren’t listed here: Ryan Smith’s CITY, Maze Master and Slaughterball.

Regarding Slaughterball, this looks like a suitable stand-in for Kaosball (which is supposed to be released this quarter). I missed the Kickstarter on Kaosball, and thus missed being able to get 60% of the teams in the game. I know Kaosball has a brilliant designer behind it, but I would love to be able to have Slaughterball scratch this particular itch and quell any desire I’d have to buy Kaosball retail and chase down all of the promo teams on eBay (at a huge mark-up). Also, Slaughterball has a two-sided board with one side specifically designed for three players… I haven’t seen a tactical game do this before, and I’m intrigued.

Lastly, I jumped in on the Heroes of Metro City expansion when it launched today (at a level that includes the base game). I have tried the other superhero-themed deckbuilders by Marvel and DC, and have been incredibly disappointed. Even their expansions didn’t make them work for me. Heroes of Metro City has been reviewed better than either of those titles, so I’m hoping this does the trick. Fingers crossed!

The Gold Heart

I am excited to hear that, Jim! Don’t know if i’ll get rid of Constance from Cross Hares- it might take a rainbow dragon for me to do that.

I saw Slaughterball which started today. I’m intrigued, but I groan at the $90-$100 price for JUST the base game (none of the stretch goals that may be unlocked). I love the concept, but I have a hard time paying that much for plastic figurines, even if they are all unique. It is an interesting concept though, and may be fun to play with a group.

If I go for Slaughterball, I’m dropping Grand Tactics: Rise of Novice. The campaign is too disorganized for this being their 2nd attempt at crowdfunding. Little, except for seeing pt. 2 of the gameplay video (still not made), is keeping me there.

As much as I love my kitty avatar, I’ll totally drop it for a Draco Magi avatar. Sorry, Mr. Whiskers.
