Fish Cook

I have been playing this game for quite a while now. I played it since it was print and play and it is always a hit. I have found it goes well with my gamer group and as well as with family. It is a funny game and a strategic game as well. It is a game of being a fish cook and gathering your fish and ingredients in the morning and then cooking what you can in the evening and earning money for doing so. The art is cartoon-y and recipes have somewhat realistic and some funny names. It plays fast and fun. The fish market and ingredient market are both determined by a set of dice for each which are rolled and placed in the line that matches the numbers rolled.
The players buy ingredients one at a time until one runs out and then each player gets one more buy. And the person that caused the end of the buying phase becomes the first to cook. Each player starts off with a hand of family recipes that you can work on as well as the face up recipes in the cooking school. In the cooking school, you can buy the face up recipes, buy a random recipe from the top of the cooking school deck or just prepare one of the cooking school recipes in the evening and therefore claiming it from the cooking school. Also, once players have prepared a recipe from their hand they place it on the table to indicate that it is now on their menu. When a recipe is on a player’s menu they can re-make it multiple times, and other players can also prepare it and they make the money and have the ability to steal it and add it to their own menu. This matters because at the end of the game the player with the most of a size of a recipe will get a bonus. Each recipe has an amount a player gets paid when they prepare it and also a bonus amount. The bonus amount is only awarded when you prepare a recipe from your hand, one in your menu and when you buy from the cooking school. If you take a recipe from the cooking school instead of buying it, you get no money. If you cook a recipe in another players’ menu you get the paid amount but the owner gets the bonus, but you get the opportunity to steal it by rolling a die and if it equals or is more than the size of the recipe you steal it.
The players will prepare recipes one at a time going around until no one can prepare a meal and then you move the round marker and re-roll all the dice and start the next day. You play for 5 days and at the end of the game the player with the most money is the winner.

Blueprints

BluePrints is not your typical dice game. It is a filler game for sure and dice rolling is definitely involved but not like you think it would be. Basically, the game is played over 3 rounds and at the end of each round will be an awarding of victory points based on the highest points earned during each round and other bonuses. At the end of the third round the person with the most victory points win. I will get more into the scoring later on. The dice in this game represent your building materials. The 4 types of building materials are wood(orange dice), stone(black dice), glass(clear dice), recyclables(green dice). Each player will get a Blueprint and a barrier to hide your blueprint and they will be trying to build their blueprint and place the dice onto the blueprints. While everyone will know what dice you are taking they will not know how you are placing them. As you choose your materials is where your choices into play because the dice are pulled from the bag and rolled depending on the number of players so you never know what building materials will be available or face value. The values on the dice will also play an important in placing on your blueprint because you can only place a dice of equal or lower number, so if you are trying a build a structure of 3 levels you do not necessarily want to put a 3 on the bottom because you would limit your next level to a 3, 2, 1 face value. So putting a 6 on the bottom would give you the most options but that might not always be available in the dice pool. I will explain more of the round scoring now because each type of material you use scores differently. Glass scores the face value of the dice used, so a 6 is worth 6 points and so on. Wood is scored 2 points for each side touching another dice, so if 3 other dice are touching that orange dice that is 6 points and each orange is scored this way. Green dice are scored for the number of green dice in a building the more dice the higher the points. Black dice are scored based on height, so higher the dice in your structure the more points it is worth. These points are added up on the point board and you also get points if you completed your structure according to the blueprint. And now Now victory points are awarded for for most points with 1st getting 3 victory points, second 2 and third 1 victory point. Also, there are 4 bonus cards that you can get each round that give you straight up 2 victory points. They are tallest building, 5 or more the same color, 4 or more same dice face value, and finally having dice with values of 1-6 in your building. Now the round ends and the point board is reset to zero, dice go back in the bag and new blueprint cards are handed out. After the third round the person with the most victory points is the winner. I really enjoy this game. It uses dice in a different and unique ways in a quick and fun game. There is luck involved but you still have a lot of choices. I highly recommend this game as a great filler between bigger games or waiting for other people to arrive. I think it would be fun with families as well. I have one negative thing to say about this game and that is the dice bag they give you is too small. You can fit all the dice into the bag but barely so you can not reach into it and grab dice. You would need to use something else initially. Why this happened I do not know but it should of been avoided.

Get Bit!

Get Bit is an easy game to learn. You are swimming in shark infested waters and someone is going to get bit. Actually, in the games I have played no one ends up with all their limbs intact but that does not mean that this is not a lot of fun to play.

First off, the components are really nice. From the players lego-like pieces with removable limbs and head to the shark with a movable jaw. It is pretty easy to right away to get the whole idea of the game into your mind, so it is quite thematic. You and your fellow “swimmers” are trying to escape being bit by the shark, but every turn someone will get bit. Each player has a set of cards in their players color that are numbered one through seven. Each player places one card face down and then the cards are revealed and this will determine the chomping order of the of your player pieces. This is also where it gets tricky. If there are any ties, those player’s pieces do not move this round. Otherwise, everyone moves to the front of the time starting from the lowest numbered card to the highest. The person at the end of the line after all movements have been made loses a limb. Play continues like this until there is only two swimmers left and the one in front wins.

The game play is pretty simple but kids will love it and adults will also enjoy this one as well. I gave it a 7 but it was more a 6.5 but that is not an option.

This is a fun and quick game. It is simple to learn so it is great for any gathering of friends because everyone will be able to pick it up quickly. The downfall of this is that this is a filler game and not the game to play for the whole night. I usually play this most when we are waiting for friends to arrive or between more complicated games. Now, do not let this make you think that I do not like this game because quite the opposite is true. I enjoy this game immensely, it is a blast to play and I do not think I have ever had a game when we were not all laughing while playing. A definite game to add to your collection. Also, if you are looking for a family friendly game then this will also fit the bill quite nicely.
