“Count Cards”

Keep in mind that there’s only 3 of each town card in the deck, and if you see that a difficult town, like Lodz, has already come and gone twice make sure you grab it or you won’t be going there for some time!

You can also use this to your advantage: in the same scenario let’s say you’ve picked up Lodz earlier, and by some luck both of the other Lodz cards are on the tableau and it’s your turn… In this game it’s rarely to your advantage to spend your turn screwing your opponents, but in this case it can be worth it to use the Administrator to flush all 6 cards ensuring you’re the first to grab the “Every Province” victory point chip.

“Focus on Efficiency”

Like a postal service, the key here is efficiency. Don’t waste any actions.

– The Administrator is generally a last ditch move, avoid using this action as much as possible.

– Scrapping a route is the ultimate waste; try to always have at least one card you can play on your current route in your hand unless you’re closing it this turn. Don’t empty your hand and keep your route open, there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to play on it next turn and it will lead to desperate moves like the Administrator. Instead, draw two cards and begin to plan your next route.

– Plan your next route while still working on your current one. Having 3 cards ready to go means you can usually play 2 cards a turn for the next two turns.

– Don’t forget you can only hold 3 cards when your current route closes. Being forced to discard a card means you wasted an action somewhere, so draw cards carefully.

– Avoid re-visiting towns.

– If you have the option of going through two different towns with roughly the same outcome, choose the one with fewer roads leading to it. You can use the other card later to give you greater options.
