“As a player, make sure the party is balanced”

It is very important that you have one melee, one dex, and one will based character in your party. When you get loot, you will find some of each. If you have nobody to benefit from it, you will have to just discard it.

The paladin is *not* a good fighter. He is an amazing healer, but an awful warrior. Generally think of him as a support cleric. Healing, adding armor buffs, etc. He does well with lots of armor, and someone else feeding him potions.

The glimmerdusk ranger is probably the best dex based character in the game. Well worth using. The burst attack is brutal on spawn points.

Don’t hide the mage in the back ranks. Yes, the consul can kill the mage pretty easily, but if you stack her with green dice and massive attack and she is at the back of the party, she can’t use them effectively.

Avoid the temptation to use one of the utility characters to fill the slot of the dex/melee/will character. Generally what happens is you start getting one type of card, fill up on it, and then can’t effectively use the card you meant to use for that character. The utility character is usually good for the 5th player. 4th player should generally be a healer. (ember mage, paladin, sister of light)

“Keep the game fast and fun with fewer players”

I have found that if you are playing with newer players, that aren’t yet good at the game, one of the best strategies is to play the five player game, but with 3 players. Have some players play multiple characters. If you kill one of them off, they can exchange one of the extras, so the other player still gets to play. It also speeds the game up tremendously.

This keeps the game fun, because as the consul, you aren’t afraid to kill them off, and as the players, you don’t get booted from the game early.

“Important TIp before opening”

Just a quick note; when you open this game you will be consumed with good feelings as you see all of the great game parts. Do not give in, each bag has exactly the pieces that are needed to build the figures that are inside of each bag. If you mix those bags of pieces then best of luck to ya….you just made a tough job 10X harder. I cannot stress this enough….open one bag at a time!!!!! Once you get these figures all together you will be more than satisfied….just take your time doing it.

“Let's NOT split up”

Considering how easily the Heroes can blow through enemies it will be incredibly tempting to split up to try to tackle multiple goals. Resist this urge. As a group, the minions and the consol will have an really hard time damaging you. However if you split up it’s much much easier for the consol to kill the heroes.

“regular super glue doesn't work well to attach the models”

I’ve found that regular hobby super glue doesn’t work with the models. I’ve tried a super glue for hard plastic models that works very well, and I’d also recommend a gel super glue and not a thin glue. The brand I’m using is Loctite Gel-which is widely available at most hardware stores.

“Against a strong consul, split the party!”

I’ve played as consul about 30 times. In a 5 player game, if the party does not split, I usually win. The reason is pretty simple, if you go as a group, and try to hit all five rooms, one at a time, by the time you get to the last two, I will have amassed an army in them, and will block you. When you mow through them, you will push the power gauge up so far it will unleash the boss, and I will have 1-2 towers left.

Yes, someone will likely die. But the best strategy is to enter the dungeon near the middle, and split 2/3, and try to smash the towers down fast. (not too fast though, gather some loot first before you break the last tower)

“If you have avoided buying SDE due to assembly”

Feeling queasy at the thought of gluing all of those miniatures? If the phrase, “some assembly required” has had you avoiding purchasing the Super Dungeon Explore game, you should consider checking out eBay for used copies of the game. While my husband has been assembling miniatures since he was in high school, I personally don’t have the same level of skills, desire, or the patience required to sit through such a task. (Just thinking about it makes me want to run screaming for the hills!) However, when we decided to pick up the game, we wanted to get it cheap, so we looked online to find a gently used copy. We found one that had been assembled, but not painted. We were very pleased with the copy and delighted to be able to get started right away painting our figures and start exploring!

“Serious Time Sink!”

Beware! The box and manuals state that the game times are pretty short, however in reality they can drag on way longer then the listed time. You’ll have a good time playing until you realize how long you have been playing!

For example me and my friends have played multiple games and they’ve all gone over the time suggestion. The last game we played was an 8-Bit game and while the manual states its a 30 minute game it took us about and hour and a half!

It’s a great game just make sure you have the time!

“Automatic Round Generator”

Hello everyone,

I made a web application to automatically generate rounds for Super Dungeon Explore. I made this because I usually play with 5+ people (with some extra rules) and it became difficult to decide the order of players each round. I hope this helps any SDE players. Have fun! 🙂

Any doubts, suggestions and comments, please comment.
I’ll soon update this application and add the new heroes from Kickstarter.

“If you going to paint, have a plan!”

I am currently painting a friend’s Super Dungeon Explore set… and it is a MASSIVE undertaking. I am a mini painter, and I love doing it. But my advice is to have a plan going in. I personally use a free app called Trello to set up my painting queue, though I hear some use spreadsheets to track. After you have listed all your figs, prioritize. Paint your heroes first, since they’ll see the most use. Then paint the bosses and minibosses. After that, paint the minions, denizens and spawn points assembly-line style. That means paint all the same sculpt together. That way you can make sure you use the same colors. These minis are super fun to paint, but make a plan & don’t get overwhelmed!

“Read skyknight's tip”

Can’t emphasize this enough. Open each bag and assemble the contents one at a time. The dragon will be your hardest. Use hot water and/or a blow dryer to move his tail out of the way.
