“The Wages of Fear Varient Rules”

Being a fan of this game for many years, and a HUGE FAN of the 1953 Yvse Montand film The Wages of Fear, it was only natural – for me – to want to combine them.

It works like this: you’re still trying to get to 1000 miles, but now you’re hauling a truckload of nitro. If you hit a hazard – flat tire or accident – and don’t have the right counter card, your truck explodes and you’re out! Out of gas and Red lights don’t cause you to explode. If you’re in a speed limit zone, and can’t play a card of the appropriate speed (i.e.- you have to discard a high value card) – you explode!

If there is only one player left, he still has to make it to the end (or die trying…). If all players explode, no one wins.

Good Luck!

“Two Fixes Wild”

I play with an old version and it can be quite frustrating if you can’t get the right fix card turn after turn. I recommend that any two fix cards act as a “wild” fix allowing you to get rid of that pesky hazard that is keeping you out of the game. If you do this don’t forget to draw an extra card to get back to 6 cards in hand!

“Not exactly 1000 advantage”

Again I have an older version and I find it helps to change the victory condition for the younger players who aren’t very good at card games yet to getting OVER 1000 miles instead exactly 1000 miles giving them an edge.
