“Play it late”

The mosquito is in fact a doppelganger, a mimic, a copier… To work well it must have a model to copy.

So: play it late. As late as you can. However you should not leave it unplayed long at all cost. Just examine all possibilities, and if you see a few good moves and some of them require putting the mosquito into play and some require adding other insects play the other ones first.

A situation where good moves involves either moving piece(s) already in the game or introducing the mosquito is different. In such cases it’s usually better to play the mosquito.

“'Fast Mosquitos' variant”

I have just played a few games with the following rule: “At the beginning put both mosquitoes on the table as the starting tiles of both players.” It seems absurd at the first glance but it proved to lead to interesting configurations afterwards. Give this setup a chance!
