Try to tailor your card choice to what you think the judge would like. The better you know the person the more chance you have to do this successfully. I’ve been in games where a husband and wife have run away with it because they happen to choose each others’ cards almost every time.

If you introduce this game to non-gamers and they want to play the game without the robber, try changing it so that whoever rolls a seven gets to choose a resource of his choice from the bank.

If a game features both witches and moats, try to buy at least one witch early on and use it on the others before they have the protection of the moat. Then try to end the game quickly by buying up the same 3 piles of cards. Your friends may even end up with negative points!
