Star Trek Panic

5 out of 8 gamers thought this was helpful

Okay … that’s a little cheesy, but if you’re a fan of the original 60s TV show, then you’ll love, nay adore the artwork in this themed version of Castle Panic. Castle Panic is a great game, so adding Star Trek elements, what could go wrong ?

In the couple of playthroughs that we did, Star Trek Panic is a fun, strategic co-operative game in which you defend the Enterprise from enemy ships in the various sections, much like Castle Panic. However, the one major difference is the Enterprise (middle piece) can be moved and fire. This makes sense, but also changes things quite a bit. I’m still not sure how I feel about this mechanic; time will tell.

Anyway, the rest of the game mechanics are easy to teach to new people, so if you’ve got some Star Trek fans in your group of friends, this would be an excellent gateway game. So, if you love co-operative games, this is a good one to add to your collection.

Batman Fluxx

Having never played any of the other variants or the original of Fluxx before, I was initially attracted to this game because of the particular Batman artwork they decided to go with. It’s the artwork from Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1995) … which I (and others) regard as one of the best Batman cartoons with it’s art deco styling.

Anyway, Batman Fluxx differs from the original Fluxx with the inclusion of Creepers (I believe these were added with Zombie Fluxx) as the Batman Villains. The gameplay varies each time you play it because the rules change based on the cards played and the players themselves. This is both a blessing and curse as you can have one game that last 2 minutes or you can have one game lasting half an hour.

Don’t be surprised that when you introduce this game to new players, that most of them are confused. Be patience, because after a couple of rounds, they’ll easily understand it’s mechanics.

Tokaido is an excellent, relaxing paced board game whilst also being extremely cut-throat as other players can effect the outcome of your movement and play. Very easy rules but flexible enough to have replayability. Great with family, kids and friends.

I haven’t played the expansion, though I’ve heard it’s best to have at least 10 play throughs of the original game before including the expansion and for new players, it’s best to exclude the expansion – Crossroads.
