This crisis expansion is not much different from the previous two however. That being said it does something great and that is to breath new life into an expansion that is rarely played. Forever evil does a lot of sitting on the shelf just due to the play mechanics of destroy your deck to win. This is not a big deal when the name of the game becomes co-op and everyone has to help out with sacrifices to save the day. Being evil is fun again.

This version of the DC deck builder series has been its weakest entry in my opinion. The quality of the product pieces are still great, but the play value is missing something that the others seem to have. One of the biggest problems for the game is that it takes much longer to play than any other version. The slow gain of power in the early game makes it hard to get moving. Also the concept of destroying your newly bought cards to upgrade is very difficult to do for most players. I have played this game and like it but most of my player base at my store would rather play another game before this one. This results in this game sitting on the shelf more than others.

This expansion adds some flavor to the Resident Evil DBG. The addition of three new mansion decks is very nice as it gives you three very different game play situations. The most fun from the expansion has to be the drafting of additional skills for the new characters though. This gives each character a unique build that you enjoy and it is limited only by your ability to draft well. Although the game is alright as a stand alone it should be said that it plays much better as a expansion for the original game. Some of the action cards from the original are sorely need. Without them many deck builds lack the action point generation to make the decks function well. All in all this expansion is a really great addition to our collection and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the original.

This should not be your first deck builder game. Try some of the others first. The game play is simple if you are playing 2 players but it gets a lot harder the more players you add. In association with learning the game rules and basic strategies for deck building it could really crush a new player. That being said I think Legendary provides veteran deck builders a nice challenge. At 4 players the game can really give you a run for your money and at 5 most times you will find your team frustrated and losing. If you can handle that you will have a good time trying your best to beat the game, let alone your fellow heroes. Having the purchase line and running bad guys line is what makes this a challenge. You need to purchase better cards for your deck while not letting your bad guys run away with the game. The game requires co-op play early and selfish play later if you want to win. If one player chooses not to co-op early they will gain a huge advantage but more often than not the game will destroy the heroes. This is where it becomes a challenge. How much is enough co-op? Each game is different and that is the best part of this game. So have fun using the hulk to wound all your friends and blasting those bad guys.

The game is missing something. The game mechanics seem to work just fine but the overall feel to the game just lacks any excitement. The game itself is just slow. The fact your life is based on cards in hands makes you play slow down and reload cards so you are not killed due to a small hand size. The game’s look could have been improved by some minitures instead of cardboard pieces but it still would not have improved game play at all. I love the video game but this board game was a let down.

If you like the franchise you will like this game as well. It is a bit rough for the new deck builder, but is a good challenge for the old pro. We used to find the game play a bit slow at our store but once we figured out the starting purchase patterns it has sped up a lot. We are now making home brew variations to the game and things have become a lot more interesting. Not everyone will love this game. It is in general a slower starting deck builder game because of the fact nobody has to go in and fight the infected unless they want to. Game variations can fix this issue. And as we in the store like to say “It’s OK to die!” If we hear this chant and did not know before, we now know somebody is playing Resident Evil.

The Lord of the Rings is another deck builder game, with a few fun differences. We at my store have come to the understanding that the only way to play this game is in impossible mode. It has a normal mode and it’s ok to learn with, but the game should be played in impossible mode for the full flavor of the game. We play this when we want to lose so bad it is fun. That’s right we want to be hurt by the game. No other deck builder we have found is so punishing to all players for one person doing well. The pain is so bad we have had tears we have had hysterical laughter, but once it is all said and done no other game has us talking about how bad we lost as this game. Winning is nice but being the guy who had 25 cards destroyed by the game including two boss cards, now that is worth talking about. And if you’re wondering, we have seen a player reduced to just the five cards in hand. We are waiting for that one to be beat. A great game for the casual to avid player. When playing impossible let new players know that they will be hurt and that fun is the goal not just winning.

The second part to DC deck builder just continues where the first set leaves off. New heroes new cards same system. What was great about the first game is still great about this game. New combos came to life with the new cards and the power rings are a great addition. Combining the two games makes for some of the greatest games we have ever seen. Where one game was weak for one hero the two come together to balance things out. We have now made some home brewed variations to expand the fun and we are always trying new fun methods not because it is boring but because we just cant get enough of this game.

This is the staple for deck builders IMO at this time. Others have come before and since but this is the game we use to teach new players to deck building at our store. Very simple play that can grow with time played but the mechanics of the game are just so easy almost anyone can play and have a good time on the first go. We refer to the learning curve and ” Can you read? Then you can play.” Most people think its an overstatement but find it to be so true so fast. Great fun great great system. Setup and clean up become so fast we can play and pick up 5-6 times a night and nobody cares!

A great social game with strategy and luck. Settlers is a fun civ builder type game based around resource gathering. The game is won by reaching ten victory points and those are gathered by building settlements or cities which gather you more resources as the game goes on. There are a few other ways to gain VP but that is for a more detailed explanation. The trading part of the game makes sure almost everyone gets something to do all game. Most games once players know the game will last around 30-45 minutes. very fun for the family night game. Crazy fun for the friend backstabbing gamer’s night.
