Small World

I loved this game when I first got and each expansion made it better. The special powers and races make the game different every time. Good mental math will help you win the game regularly, but just like any war game, people can keep you down unless you get wily. The rules are simple, but I’ve never spent the time to go over all the powers with new players. I just tell them what each does when they ask. Perhaps this practice is why gave the game 3 stars in “Easy to Learn”.

My gaming group loves this game and that makes me enjoy it. Everyone talks about how mean the game is, but it has nothing on Cutthroat Caverns in the ***** factor. Co-op games are very popular with my group which has given me this craving for “confrontational” games. Survive is fun, light, and mild in a**-baggery. If you really want to show everyone what a ******* you are, you’re better off with Cutthroat Caverns or Neuroshima Hex.

Yggdrasil

Yggdrasil is an unforgiving game. With so many options and only being able to do 3 different actions per turn (usually), this game will make you hurt with every botched decision and die roll. The mechanics are awesome. So awesome that I feel they overshadow the theme of the game entirely. I really do feel Yggdrasil can be easily re-themed into just about genre, but Norse gods are awesome.

Snow Tails

When it comes down to it, Snow Tails is really just an exercise in adding and subtracting. An excellent game to play with kids learn these math skills and definitely awesome to start a night of gaming with. I play with a lot of the variants found on BGG and have been meaning to print out my own Jump of Death tile. If you’re a fan of racing and don’t have the need to shoot other players… get this game.
