K2

If you like mountain, climbing and boardgames, K2 is your game. The theme of this title is very present and the difficulties and problems that climbers have to face are well represented. I played this game about dozen times and I found that the mechanics well reproduce the dangers of the mountain. If you understimate the situations the mountain will not forgive… and your climbers probably will die. So it is important to manage carefully own hand of cards. The rules are simple to learn and the components are good.

Village is a classic german style game with good mechanics and a very “nice” theme. Generation after generation, your family grows and some members die and you have to decide who to send to the cemetery 🙂 (or in the book of the village if they did something good during their life).
Mechanics is quite simple but there are several things to control and it is necessary to play it 2 or 3 times before you understand all the possibilities the game has.
The components are good but the graphics don’t meet my taste.

If you want a game in which you can use your fantasy and test the feeling with your mates, Dixit is a very good solution. I played it a lot of times with different groups of players and this game always works well. I like to see how different groups describe the same card in different ways: it’s very fun.
If you play with the same group of players, expansions are necessary because the deck includes only 84 cards and after playing it several times you start to know how your mates describe the cards. I think Dixit is a “MUST HAVE” because is good for all the kinds of players.

I played Olympus several times. It’s a nice worker-placement game where you have to develop your civilization in 6 different ways using priests to ask for the favor of the gods. It’s important to play cards that represent buildings and discoveries, to improve quikly your 6 characteristics. There is some nice interaction using Apollo and Ares. In five players the game tends to be a bit too long.
Graphics and components are good.

Vanuatu is simple to learn and deep to play. There are many ways to do prosperity points. Most of its mechanics are taken from other famous games (like Puerto Rico) but they are well mixed togheter and work very well. The game has a good interaction during the “actions selection” fase where players can hinder each other especially if played in 5.
Currently I played the game 3 times and I like the different possibilities the game offers for victory. You can’t plan long-term strategies because there are too many variables to consider for this. You have to try your best in the short medium term.
The components are quite good, the graphics is ok (from my point of view it could be better…).

PS: sorry for my english: I have to improve it 🙂

Earth Reborn

This game surprised me. Currently, I think is the ultimate Skirmish.
ER is very tactical and deep with a lots of rules but the nine scenarios allow you to learn them gradually, step by step, so you can enjoy it since the first game.
I played many times the first four scenarios with different gamers and I can’t image how many possibilities you can have in the last scenarios: almost infinite. The replay value is very high and if you were tired about the nine pregenerate scenarios, the manual includes rules to create your custom scenarios. 🙂
Miniatures and other stuff are very good and the box includes all of them perfectly.
Setup of scenarios takes a little bit (10-15 minutes: you have to build modular maps)and although the game is for 2-4 players, basically it’s a game for two players.

PS: sorry for my english, I have to improve it ^^”’
